Giants Cut Ties with Former 2024 Undrafted Kicker
As of today, the Giants have decided to cut all ties with Jude McAtamney. They didn’t struggle to let him go, but they agreed after this Sunday's loss to the Broncos. He wasn’t a great kicker, but McAtamney wasn’t terrible either. However, the 25-year-old cost the Giants a massive win they could have had this past weekend. Against Denver, McAtamney missed two crucial kicks for Big Blue. He missed one in the first quarter when the Giants had scored, and he missed a second one that could have tied up the game and allowed it to go into overtime.
Since then, New York has faced much backlash for the final missed kick. As much as everyone states it was a team effort, things could have been tied up if McAtamney hadn’t missed this last kick. Big Blue had no choice but to cut him to keep their fans happy and move forward from this. They have spent a lot of time working on their rebuild. This area needed to be rebuilt as part of the Giants’ rebuild.
This wasn’t the first kick that McAtamney had missed. He missed a kick in the Philadelphia Eagles game two weeks ago. He was put in for Graham Gano, who has been out with a groin injury for several weeks. This started several weeks ago when Gano went out with his injury during warmups against the Kansas City Chiefs. After this occurred, the Giants activated McAtamney to the roster after a competitive competition between him and Younghoe Koo. Obviously, at the time, McAtamney had won.
In the future, from this, the Giants have their other options. Gano is set to return within the week to play for the Giants. However, if he doesn’t, the Giants can put Koo in to take his place. Koo kicked for the Falcons before being cut, and the Giants picked him up. If the Giants put Koo in, there should be no issues kicking-wise for this team in the future. The Giants will have much better success for their future games and figure out how the rest of their season will go from here on out.
