Giants Collapse in Denver: Looking into the Fourth Quarter Blues

NFL

The Giants had one impressive game today against the Denver Broncos. What started as a promising game turned into something downhill quickly for the entire team. They let a 19-0 lead in the first half slip away in the second, thanks to Denver. The Broncos were able to outscore the Giants in the fourth quarter, 33-13. Ultimately, the Giants lost 33-32 in a one-point game. There were several key areas in this game where the Giants fell apart.

The Defensive Line Fell Apart in the Second Half

The defensive line played really well in the first half of the game. They made it so that they held the Broncos scoreless for the entire first half of the game, allowing them to score absolutely nothing. However, when the Giants returned in the second half of the game, it began to fall apart for them. Several of their defensive players started to pop up with injuries. They lost Jevon Holland, who came out of the game early with a knee injury. Brian Burns also had a leg injury, but he was able to walk off the field; however, he was slow by the end of the game, trying to keep up. Paulson Adebo was also out of today's game with a shoulder injury. Several key players have kept this defense going for the season's first few weeks. When each one of these players went down, this is where the game began to turn.

The Rookie QB’s Costly Interception

Jaxson Dart is a young and brand-new rookie quarterback. Mistakes will be made in every game, and not all games will be won. However, in today's game, Dart attempted to pass the ball to Wan’Dale Robinson, but Broncos Justin Strnad intercepted it. It cost them the game because the Broncos caught up by scoring a touchdown on the next drive, cutting into New York’s lead. At this point, Dart was really frustrated, and it showed for the rest of the game, which put the Giants at the bottom, where they now sit at 2-5.

The Giants Need to Start Playing Their Other Kicker

Graham Gano was out of today's game with a groin injury, and the Giants have been doing their best to replace him. That said, with Gano being out, they have put in Jude McAtammey. He missed two kicks in today's game. McAtammey missed the extra kick in the first quarter, and then he missed the second kick in the final moments of this matchup, causing the Giants to lose by one point. They need to bench him and start Younghoe Koo, whom they also signed to their roster. The Giants need to use him because he did well with Atlanta, so there should be no issues with him kicking for New York.
