Giants First-Round Pick Makes Preseason Debut Against Bills
The New York Football Giants made their first preseason debut against the Buffalo Bills. Fans and coaches could not be happier with the outcome of this first game. The Giants beat the Bills with a final score of 34-25. This was only the beginning, and there is much more to look forward to in the next several weeks. New York will spend the rest of the week in training camp to build off from today's first win.
Russell Wilson opened the first quarter as the Giants’ quarterback. He had a highly efficient drive, passing six of seven for 28 yards. His drive finished with a field goal before he officially handed the reins over to the rookie for the rest of the game. Which wasn't hard to do, when they got Jaxson Dart onto the field, the Giants still had no issues. Dart led the team the whole way.
Head coach Brian Daboll could not be happier with the way Dart played in his first game. He took over in full during the second quarter, completing 12 of 19 passes for 154 yards. Dart, in total, delivered a 106 passer rating. To add to his fantastic start, Dart delivered his first touchdown, 29 yards to Lil’Jordan Humphrey. He has spent a lot of time working on pressure, and he seems to have come through. Dart also had three other scoring drives during this game.
Several other standouts were present in today's game. Dante Miller was one of the bigger standouts because of his contribution to the game. He had 36 receiving yards and 13 rushing yards. Miller excelled in screenplays and sustaining drives, where the Giants have struggled. Another area that the Giants did great in was with kicker Graham Gano also brought the heat. He connected field goals from 50 to 53 yards—a significant upgrade from where he was last season.
Lastly, it wasn't only the offense that had a great game. It was also the defense that was able to make the stops against the Buffalo Bills. The Bills only got by with 26 yards during the first quarter. Abdul Carter also made his debut. He made decent stops, and he did so well that he even got called for a roughing the passer penalty during the game.
It was a well-played game for the Giants during their first preseason game of the year. If they keep this up, the regular season may look good for them. None of the first-string players made their debut during this game. However, in the coming weeks, fans will get to see them all make a return. The next game the Giants will play will be on Saturday, August 16th at 7:00 p.m. ET against the New York Jets.
