Green Bay’s Opening Depth Chart Sets the Stage for the 2025 Season

NFL

The Green Bay Packers announced their first depth chart of the 2025 season this week, setting the stage for their Week One matchup against the Detroit Lions this Sunday. The chart of players gives fans an inside and thorough look at how the team plans to take the field for the first time after an offseason filled with huge trades and further anticipation to watch the team. Depth charts also confirm the biggest storylines from training camp and the offseason as a whole, for example, which rookies and veterans are locked in the key spots on the team. While depth charts can change rapidly, this first one from the Packers gives an early sense of the direction Green Bay is looking to head during the 2025 season.

One of the biggest stories out of training camp, on the offensive side of the ball, has been breakout star rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden, who has rightfully earned a starting role amongst his young wide receiver teammates. Golden, selected in the first round of the NFL draft back in April, impressed coaches and teammates throughout the duration of training camp with his explosiveness and consistency. His ability to take the length of the field and make catch after catch helped him stand out from his veteran teammates. By becoming the only rookie to be named to the starting lineup, Golden sets himself up to be a huge factor in the Packers’ passing attack this season.

The offensive line has also gained momentum with Rasheed Walker, who is set to start at left tackle, and Sean Rhyan, named to the starting right guard position. Both Walker and Rhyan showed up in a big way during training camp, showing they can be forceful and protective of quarterback Jordan Love. Walker, since entering the league back in 2022, has shown what a fierce competitor he is, and his growth now earns him a very important job of protecting Love’s blind side. Rhyan, on the other hand, has shown improvement with both run blocking and pass protection, making him the right choice to start in his position.

Moving onto the defensive side of the ball, with the top storyline the past few days about the news of the newest Green Bay Packer, Micah Parsons, in the spotlight, who is slated as a starting defensive end despite joining the team a week prior. The former Dallas Cowboy joined Green Bay through a monstrous, notorious trade late last week, immediately amping up not only the defense’s potential but overall as a team. Parsons brings a very rare speed and power, providing him with enough chances to dominate as both a pass rusher and a stopper against the run. His presence in the front lines with young talents like Lukas Van Ness and Edgerrin Cooper sets the Packers up for potentially what could be the exciting defensive fronts in the NFC and NFL.

The first depth chart also showcases the Packers’ game plan for heading into the season. The mixture of Parsons’ star power and Golden’s youth points to a commitment to balancing proven talent with developing players. Green Bay will be relying heavily on its linemen to protect its quarterback while giving new weapons the opportunities to shine. As the season kicks off, this depth chart shows a team who are prepared to compete with confidence and ambition in not only the NFC North, but the league.
