History Favors the Steelers Over the Bills in Pittsburgh

NFL

The Steelers play the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at Acrisure Stadium. The game is especially significant because it has playoff implications. Both teams are heading towards needing a Wild Card to make the playoffs. The Steelers are 6-5 in the AFC North. The Bills are 7-4 in the AFC East. The Steelers have a history of winning against the Bills when hosting them. The Steelers have a record of 10-3 when facing the Bills in Pittsburgh. The Steelers have lost 1-4 of their last five games against the Bills. Four of those games were in Buffalo.

The last time the Steelers played the Bills at home was in 2019. The Steelers lost. Quarterback Duck Hodges was playing in place of an injured Ben Roethlisberger in that game. Defeating the Bills this year won’t be easy. They’re currently ranked as the third-best total offense in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys are first, and the Indianapolis Colts are second. The Steelers are currently ranked 27th in total offense.

The Bills’ offense has an average of 381.8 yards per game this season. The Steelers’ offense only has an average of 292.2 yards per game. However, the Steelers can still gain the winning edge with their special teams unit. The Steelers have a history of success with special teams, getting their hands on kicks and punts.

Their last victory over the Bills in 2021 was largely due to special teams. In the fourth quarter, Miles Killebrew blocked a punt that Ulysees Gilbert III recovered for a touchdown. The play switched the trajectory of the game. It was part of the Steelers’ 17 points in the fourth quarter that helped them win the game.

After missing the Steelers’ Week 12 game against the Chicago Bears due to a wrist fracture, quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been cleared to play on Sunday. He participated fully in practice on Friday. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that it’s “all systems go” for Rodgers playing on Sunday. With their starting quarterback returning and their history of defeating the Bills at home, along with their strong special teams unit, the Steelers can beat the Bills. The game will be broadcast on CBS. Kickoff is at 4:25 p.m. EST.
