How a Sixth-Year Wideout Could Make an Impact on the Jaguars in 2026
The Jacksonville Jaguars have a plethora of wide receivers on their roster as we get closer to the upcoming 2026 campaign. The team drafted multiple youngsters during the 2026 NFL Draft, including Baylor’s Josh Cameron and Stanford’s CJ Williams. One of the more underrated units in all of the NFL, head coach Liam Coen will have to narrow down his options before the end of training camp and preseason. Before that point, numerous players will have their opportunities to prove that they belong in the River City. Among those looking to make a name for themselves, one veteran sticks out above the rest. That would be former Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Rams wideout Austin Trammell.
Trammell is currently entering his sixth season as an NFL wideout, his third in Duval County. He’s been mainly a practice squad backup for a majority of his career, making short stints on the field when needed. Across 31 games played, the former Rice Owl has 11 receptions for 128 receiving yards. At one point during the 2025 season, Trammell was waived to make room for former Denver Broncos Tim Patrick, although the seven-year veteran didn’t bring much upon his arrival to Jacksonville. Despite having minimal snaps in the regular season, the Texas product is filled with untapped potential just waiting to be seen. To play that little and still be around on NFL rosters at a consistent rate means that something is catching the eyes of offensive coordinators around the league.
Last season alone, Trammell appeared in six contests. The 28-year-old receiver caught three of nine targets for 46 yards. If he can’t find a way to make an impact offensively, Trammell should be able to make some plays on special teams. While with the Rams in 2023, he returned 25 punts for 183 yards and six kickoffs for 101 yards. In two seasons with Jacksonville, the 28-year-old has returned three punts for 22 yards and one kickoff for 54 yards. Many other athletes would’ve given up on their dreams by being a backup at this point in their career, but Trammell stays determined. In 2026, that dedication might pay off in a big way.
