How This Driver Is Improving With the Racing Bulls

Liam Lawson has finally found himself among the top six finishers in the Austrian Grand Prix. After being moved down to the Racing Bulls, Lawson has officially made his best finish in Formula 1 so far. He was almost taken out in the race within the first lap due to the unfortunate collision with Mercedes rookie, Kimi Antonelli. The teen and Lawson’s former teammate, Max Verstappen, did not finish the race due to the crash on Turn 3 of the first lap.

Lawson was one of two drivers to make a one-stop strategy, which made a set of tires last longer and impacted his pace quickly. He was also assisted by the fact that Fernando Alonso was close behind him in his Aston Martin. Alonso was the second driver who made the one-stop, so Lawson was able to keep a solid distance between their cars, earning himself that 6th place by the end of the race. He admitted that it was a tough race, especially due to the Antonelli and Verstappen collision. The pace, strategy, and speed he had proved that time with the Racing Bulls are helping his driving skills.

Lawson managed to maintain his hard tires for the last 38 laps of the race, and Isack Hadjar, his teammate, maintained them for 41 laps as well. Sixth place for Lawson earned the team eight valuable points. Unfortunately, Hadjar did not score any points due to floor damage that was noticed 15 laps from the end of the race. He assumed he would have had 8th place secured, but due to the damage to his car, he ended up dropping back to 12th. Now the team stands at 36 points overall for the championship.

It is great to see how Lawson is improving with his driving as he grows with the Racing Bulls. He has a long way to go, but it is apparent that he has truly improved in his time away from the Red Bull seat. Here is hoping that he continues to enhance his driving ability. Make sure to watch the upcoming British Grand Prix starting July 4th!
