Dynamic Scorer Re-Signs with the Bucks After Steady NBA Rise

NBA

This past NBA season, Gary Trent Jr. played his first year in Milwaukee after signing with the Bucks last summer, bringing his sharpshooting and defensive intensity to a team with high championship hopes. Unfortunately, the Bucks endured a challenging year marked by injuries to key players, which disrupted their rhythm and consistency. Despite Trent’s steady contributions, Milwaukee was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, losing the series in five games. Trent averaged solid numbers, but the team’s struggles overshadowed individual efforts. Now, as the offseason unfolds, questions remain about Trent’s future and where he might sign next.

Trent was originally drafted 37th overall in 2018 by the Sacramento Kings but was traded on draft night to the Portland Trail Blazers. He showed promise early in his career, steadily increasing his scoring and defensive impact while splitting time between starting and coming off the bench. Midway through the 2020-2021 season, he was traded to the Toronto Raptors, where he became a key contributor known for his quick release and tenacious defense. Over multiple seasons in Toronto, Trent developed into a reliable two-way wing capable of stretching the floor and guarding multiple positions. His time with the Raptors solidified his reputation as a valuable rotation piece and clutch performer.

Across his career through the 2024-2025 season, Trent has appeared in 415 regular-season games, averaging 13.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in about 28 minutes per game. His shooting efficiency remains a highlight, with a career 42.3% field goal percentage and nearly 40% from three-point range. Defensively, Trent has contributed over one steal per game, adding energy and pressure on the perimeter. His postseason performances further emphasize his ability to step up, averaging 14.6 points on 42.1% shooting in 16 playoff contests. As a young player entering his prime, Trent continues to improve and refine his all-around game.

Now, Trent begins a new chapter in his career after re-signing with the Bucks on a two-year deal worth $7.5 million. His ability to knock down threes, create his own shot, and defend opposing wings makes him a valuable addition to any rotation. At 26 years old, he joins a roster where he can bring scoring depth, energy, and playoff experience. The opportunity to reset after a tough season in Milwaukee could prove to be just what Trent needs to reestablish himself as a high-impact player. With a fresh start and the right system around him, he has a chance to take another step forward and help Milwaukee contend in a competitive landscape.
