Is It Time to Clean House in the Big Apple?
The Giants took another huge turn in Week Nine against the San Francisco 49ers. What was supposed to be a positive game turned into another loss. They fell 34-24 and have moved on to become 2-7. It hasn’t been easy for the Giants, but the question that remains is whether it's time to clean house or keep things as they are. There was no doubt that the Giants could have beaten San Francisco, but the decisions that were made on management's end were no help at all.
It starts down on the field with head coach Brian Daboll, who is the one calling all of the shots as to what happens for this team. He is the one who is currently developing their new rookie quarterback, Jaxson Dart. He is happy with the progress that has been made so far. However, his team is continuing to struggle in all aspects. He is doing everything he can, but some of the calls made by his offensive and defensive coaches, Mike Kafka and Shane Bowen, were not the greatest.
At one point in the game, the Giants had the chance to go for fourth down and score a touchdown. However, they decided to go with a field goal from Graham Gano. The Giants took three and not seven. They needed the touchdowns more than anything, and that was not the best call that they could have made. It has been several of the Giants making decisions like this.
Things only got worse from there. The defense was struggling to hold on. The only decent thing they were able to pull off in this game was an interception that the 49ers' backup quarterback, Mac Jones, had thrown, and Abdul Carter was able to catch. The Giants, however, couldn’t score anything, especially after this play had occurred. The defensive line barely showed that they were capable of playing today. After the interception, the defensive line basically lost interest in any plays. They had allowed so many yards to be gained by the 49ers' offense, and at one point, several players were just watching as Christian McCaffrey ran down the field. They couldn’t stop anything.
That being said, things go all the way up the chain with the Giants' general manager Joe Schoen. This has been several seasons of Schoen making decisions for this team that should not be made. In today's game, there should have been several players who were cut from the roster a long time ago, and there are several who should have been signed to the Giants team to help rebuild it into a bigger and better team. This management team has also not made any moves before the trade deadline. They’ve also spent the last several seasons sitting back and waiting for something to happen. The only good thing they have done so far is pick up a few players in this past year's NFL Draft. At the end of the season, the Giants' owner, John Mara, may be looking to make decisions.
