Is This Two-Time NXT Champion's Contract Situation a Work or Real?
In the last few months, the WWE Universe has been following the Karrion Kross contract saga, hoping that the two-time NXT Champion will be re-signed by the WWE. However, yesterday, both Kross and his wife, Scarlett, posted on their social media accounts that they’re contracts had expired and they are now taking bookings. Kross posted an hour-long video where he shared his thoughts on the situation and wanted to thank the fans for supporting him throughout this situation, as it seems that his time in the company has come to an end. However, according to Bleacher Report, Karrion Kross and the WWE are expected to agree to a new contract. Which begs the question of why Kross would make a video thanking the fans and posting that he is open for bookings on social media when he is expected to go back to the World Wide Leader in Sports Entertainment? This situation has some fans questioning whether this is part of a work or is real. If the WWE and Kross are blurring the lines between reality and fiction, then they have certainly done their job in keeping fans interested and invested in seeing what happens next.
Now, several insiders in the wrestling industry believe that Kross is coming back. On the latest episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer called this situation a weird one and said that there is a belief that Kross will be back in the WWE. The man nicknamed Killer Kross has built a connection with the fans that is undeniable right now. Under the current regime in WWE, leadership has said that they do listen to the fans when making decisions. Right now, the fans want Kross, and that is something that the WWE cannot hide from. An example of this is when the company released R-Truth on June 1st, only to bring him back a week later after a lot of fan outcry. The support for Kross is there, and if this situation is real and he is gone from the company, then the WWE must do the right thing and bring him back.
Yet, if this is a work, then the WWE is playing coy with everybody, and they can only hope they can get the reaction that they want. A recent example is what happened at the end of SummerSlam Saturday, when Seth Rollins pulled off a ruse and faked his knee injury for weeks, only to come back at the Biggest Party of the Summer and cash in his Money in the Bank contract and defeat CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship. Reactions coming out of this were met with shock and surprise, but it overall worked well for the company. Maybe the WWE does not want fans to know that Kross is coming back, so that when he eventually does, the reaction will be met with the same positive fanfare filled with shock and surprise.
Just like I mentioned above, the 40-year-old wrestler’s situation has been monitored closely by fans. They will be watching very closely to see if the man who claims to be the devil on your shoulder will show up on WWE television soon, since the news of his contract expiring came out. If it is work and he is indeed back, then this is a win for the WWE and its fans. However, if it is real, then the fans have lost one of their favorites, and the WWE will have to hope that Kross does not become a bigger star somewhere else.
