Jacksonville’s WR4 Is Continuing to Change the Passing Game

NFL

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ passing offense has yet to get going in 2025, with the team heavily relying on the running game. However, there are still some positives to take from a passing game that had quarterback Trevor Lawrence waving off his own head coach during a Week Two loss. New addition from Washington, Dyami Brown has had himself two 50+ yard games and a touchdown, but the main topic of discussion is the fourth receiver on the depth chart, veteran Parker Washington. Washington, who has himself an impressive training camp, has had an increased role in Liam Coen’s offense since he became the head coach in January. Washington already has five receptions for 76 yards on the season, all during their Week Two matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. This increase comes after struggles in the game with rookie Travis Hunter and sophomore receiver Brian Thomas Jr.

With Thomas being questionable entering Week Three, fans can expect Washington to continue to have an elevated role in the offense. The Jaguars play the Houston Texans in Jacksonville this weekend, and the last time Houston visited the Jaguars was a career day for Parker Washington in 2024. In that December matchup, Washington had six receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown from quarterback Mac Jones. With Washington’s potential on full display last week in Cincinnati in a new Coen’s offense, it should be no surprise if he gets a good amount of targets from Lawrence against Houston. He won’t be matched up against top corners, since he’s lower on the depth chart; it is likely that the top defenders will be matched against receivers like Hunter and Brown. This would give Lawrence the perfect opportunity to get Washington some yards while teams are still unaware of his potential and ability to break out against a defense.

For diehard Jaguars fans, Washington’s ability to put up big numbers when he gets the chance should be no surprise from his days at Penn State. In 2021, Washington put up 108 yards against Ohio State and would do it again against that defense in 2022 with 179 yards and a touchdown. When the lights are brightest, Washington can shine. He just needs the trust from the play callers in Coen and offensive coordinator Grant Udinski, and targets from quarterback Trevor Lawrence to unleash the beast.
