Mind the Game Podcast Returns for Season Three with Two NBA Legends
LeBron James and Steve Nash both return to the Mind The Game podcast this week, talking and breaking down the game of basketball some more. James spoke about the Lakers' offseason and their new outlook going into the season. The NBA’s all-time scoring leader said he has high hopes for the Lakers and that they have gotten better defensively and offensively. ‘The King’ also revealed he got into golfing and is taking it seriously as a sport. That could be something we see him do more often once he retires.
This episode comes out days before James announced he would be out to start the season with an injury. Among the many things discussed as well was “skinny Luka,” referring to all-star teammate Luka Doncic. Doncic has made headlines this summer with his dramatic weight loss. LeBron certainly took notice of it and commented that he watched Luka's national team play and that Luka looks faster and more athletic. A significant theme in the episode was adapting to alphas, as they call it. Nash talked about his experience serving as a point guard to Amar’e Stoudmaire in his prime. LeBron spoke about how he was essentially the point guard for his first stint with the Cavaliers.
Both guys, especially LeBron, spoke about how changes in the league forced them to adapt their play and how playing with different all-star teammates made their play easier. For example, LeBron talked about how he didn't have to be the primary ball handler in Miami because Dwyane Wade was there, how Chris Bosh and Anthony Davis played differently because the role of the big man had changed in many ways. Everything became a lot more stretched out, and it creates more space on the floor. The episode was filled with many basketball plays and gems that any basketball head would enjoy, much like most episodes. The discussions of plays, the different roles layers have, and how those roles have changed. Also, what's there to look forward to next makes this a must-listen for any basketball head looking to raise their basketball IQ. It was a good episode, and hopefully, in the next one, they will delve more into their thoughts on things from around the league.
