The New York Football Giants have had a busy offseason. They have brought in plenty of new players for both the offensive and defensive line. This team did not make headlines when they signed veteran wide receiver and return specialist Braxton Berrios to the roster. The former All-Pro has done an amazing job proving what he can provide for Big Blue. He may not be the Giants' first choice this season as a wide receiver, but he can bring them what they need. This former Miami wide receiver has several abilities he can showcase during the regular season if New York allows him to.
Turning a Quiet Giants Signing into Something Much Louder
Berrios isn’t expected to be a number one pick for the Giants in the wide receiver room. New York signed him at the beginning of June. They like what they have seen out of him thus far. The experienced playmaker produces especially one thing that every NFL team looks for: versatility. This speedy receiver has stood up in the slot on pass teams, contributed on needed gadget plays, and was able to establish himself as one of the league's better return specialists. When Berrios played with the New York Jets in 2021, he earned his All-Pro status by proving that he could change the momentum of the game with one explosive play.
The Giants Didn’t Sign Berrios to Be WR1
This versatility has already been on display at the Giants' training camp during Week One and even before that during OTAs. The 30-year-old veteran has flashed his hands to let his quarterback Jaxson Dart know that he was open. Berrios has also caught a deep pass from veteran quarterback Jameis Winston. Many of the coaches have been happy with the work he has already put in. He quickly became one of the biggest surprises to come out of New York’s training camp.
From OTAs to Training Camp
The Giants may have found a game-changing weapon hiding in plain sight on special teams. The slot receiver has done well recently while playing for both the Jets and the Miami Dolphins. The Giants have emphasized winning the field battle position under head coach John Harbaugh. Berrios brings so much experience from returning both punts and kickoffs. Should the dynamic special teams weapon claim the role, his explosiveness could make him one of Big Blue’s biggest X-factors this season.

The versatile offensive weapon also comes in very handy as wide receiver insurance for Big Blue. Berrios will be there just in case star receiver Malik Nabers or Odell Beckham go down during the season. Injuries are always inevitable and can occur over a 17-game regular season. Having a very dependable receiver who is also a veteran is another big help. Playing against defenses, he will be able to burn through them, giving New York a chance to get the ball downfield and into the end zone.
