Off-Court Warriors Drama Flares Up Again for 36-Year-Old Forward

NBA

One of the two remaining four-time champions on Golden State’s roster is back at the forefront of discussion, but not for welcoming reasons. Draymond Green had a reported altercation with a Knicks fan over social media on Sunday afternoon that caused the Warriors forward to lash out in his response. The outsider provoked Green with a more vulgar version of “see me outside,” to whom the player returned the profanity. However, in doing so, Green threatened not just the user when he said, “Watch your mouth before I crush those dirty *** kids in your banner.”

Green is, unfortunately, not a stranger to off-court altercations. The most recent incident that may come to fans’ minds was the punch that the Michigan State alum threw at Jordan Poole during a scrimmage before the 2022-2023 season. Following that campaign, we did not see the sharpshooting guard with a Warriors uniform again, and speculation circulated back to that pre-season scuffle. Green has also had bumps in relationships with other former teammates, like Kevin Durant, but when the team wins, much of the friction gets brushed under the carpet.

When the team doesn’t perform as well, even online arguments quickly make their rounds across the internet and create headlines. At this time, Golden State has not yet commented on the situation. Assuming they are in talks with both the player and make their own research, this may not be just some more social media “beef.” Taking into account the material of his response, but more importantly, to whom it was directed, I’d expect the Warriors to address this very soon. I also don’t anticipate the front office taking this lightly and may even issue some form of repercussions.

Ahead of a busy and uncertain offseason, the last thing this team wants is to make the wrong headlines. Golden State enters crucial moments in determining the future and how to balance that with the current state of this group. The expectations from a fiery yet seasoned veteran ought to be higher for someone like Green, who knows better than causing distractions. While I expect the organization to swallow this up before it further expands to other news sources, this is certainly not a good look for both the Warriors and the player.
