Potential Free Agents the Cowboys Can Sign Before the Start of the 2026 NFL Season
During an offseason for the Dallas Cowboys marked by unprecedented expectations, they have successfully built on those expectations by further strengthening their roster. They recently traded for the former Steelers' first-round pick in 2023, Broderick Jones, for their own 2027 third- and sixth-round picks. They made moves in free agency, signing the former Super Bowl 50 MVP, Von Miller, and a pair of safeties with former Cardinal Jalen Thompson and former Bronco P.J. Locke. Despite the Cowboys' addition of several players to a roster that was not prepared for a playoff run last season, Jerry Jones and the front office believe they can still enhance their depth. As the NFL season begins in less than two weeks, who are some potential free agents the Cowboys can add before their week one match?
Adoree Jackson
Adoree Jackson is one of the potential veteran options that Dallas could look towards to help improve their secondary. The Cowboys have already added pieces to the secondary, such as the veteran Cobie Durant, but continuing to want to improve can only help Dallas. A key reason why Jackson is a popular name to add is because of how familiar he is with Dallas's new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker, whom he spent time with in Philadelphia a season ago. He will not come into Dallas and be a starter, as the Cowboys have already figured out who will be in contention for that job. However, being a player Dallas can rely on in rotations is the main focus.
Tyrel Dodson
Another free agent option that Dallas could jump on is the recently cut linebacker from the Miami Dolphins, Tyrel Dodson. One area of the defense that did not see significant changes this offseason is the linebacker position. In addition to acquiring former San Francisco linebacker Dee Winters early in the offseason, Dallas is fully relying on the possibility that star linebacker DeMarvion Overshown will play healthily. They also drafted Michigan linebacker Jaishawn Barham; however, he will be a hybrid player, playing at the defensive end from time to time. What makes Dodson an interesting choice is his versatility, as he is not familiar with Parker's new three-four defense, but he has the tangibles to play in it. Similar to Adoree Jackson, Dallas is not looking for a superstar player but someone who can be relied on whenever his number is called.
