Rams Veteran Receiver Still Has Something to Say

NFL

Davante Adams has been one of the best wide receivers in the NFL for nearly a decade. He has six Pro Bowl selections, three First-Team All-Pro honors, and back-to-back seasons with over 1,500 receiving yards on his resume. Still, since leaving Green Bay in 2022, Adams has been searching for something more than numbers. He has been looking for stability, chemistry, and a real chance to win again.

Since 2022, Adams has been on three different teams. First, he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders to reunite with Derek Carr, his former college quarterback. Then traded to the New York Jets to team up with longtime friend Aaron Rodgers. Neither situation led to much success. Now in Los Angeles with the Rams, Adams may finally be back in a setting that fits what he has been looking for.

What Happened in Vegas Stays in Vegas

When Davante Adams first arrived in Las Vegas, there was excitement around the reunion with his former college quarterback, Derek Carr. Adams delivered in 2022 with 1,516 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns, but the team finished with a 6–11 record. Toward the end of the season, Carr was benched, which caught Adams off guard. He had been vocal in interviews about Carr being one of the biggest reasons he joined the Raiders in the first place. Carr was released shortly after the season ended.

The following year, Jimmy Garoppolo stepped in at quarterback. There was hope for a fresh start, but the team struggled again. Adams still performed, putting up 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns, though Garoppolo was eventually benched, also. Towards the middle of the season, after a frustrating start, Adams was traded to the Jets in another move that was meant to give him new life. His 2024 season, split between the Raiders and the Jets, ended with 1,063 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. Even with solid production, the lack of success followed him.

Now that Adams and Garoppolo are both in Los Angeles, Adams made it clear he is ready to move forward. “I love Jimmy. It was never a personal thing. It’s been amazing. We’ve gotten to catch up and get on the same page,” Adams said. “Obviously, that was just a dark moment in all of our lives. I think all of us were pretty miserable over there. We kind of caught up and laughed about it, and we’ve been making plays since we’ve been here.” That quote says it all. Adams is ready to close the Raiders chapter of his career. His tone is clear. He is moving on and making sure the focus now is on winning again in a new city with a new opportunity.

A Fresh Start with the Rams

Now at age 32, Adams is entering a situation that finally looks balanced, and he’s already proving at training camp why his presence will be a serious problem for opposing defenses. The Rams made a playoff run last season despite battling through injuries with their top receivers. They have one of the most promising young cores in the league with players like Puka Nacua, Jared Verse, and Kyren Williams. The team may not have won a Super Bowl last year, but they proved they could compete.

Adams joins a roster that feels like it is building toward something serious. He enters an offense led by Matthew Stafford and now adds veteran depth to a young receiving group. Head coach Sean McVay has praised the team’s focus this offseason, and Adams brings experience, leadership, and still plenty of production. After everything that has happened in the last few years, Adams is not chasing headlines or trying to prove his name still belongs. He wants stability. He wants to win. With the Rams, that chance finally feels real again.
