Reliable Wing Brings Experience Back to the Bucks

NBA

After signing a one-year minimum deal with the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2024 offseason, Taurean Prince entered the 2024–25 campaign looking to reassert his value as a steady Three-and-D contributor. Tasked with supporting stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, Prince brought versatility, floor spacing, and leadership to a Bucks team balancing title hopes with roster turnover. His ability to be effective without the ball and to be a connector on both sides is key. Veteran players like this will always be coveted.

Prince quickly carved out a reliable role. Appearing in 80 games and starting 73 of them, he averaged eight points, almost four rebounds, and about two assists in 27.1 minutes per game. He was remarkably efficient, shooting 45.7% from the field, 43.9% from three, which was good for the third-best mark in the league, and 81.3% from the free-throw line, all while defending opposing wings with discipline and physicality. His defensive numbers were also solid, tying a career high with one steal per game and contributing over two defensive win shares.

In one of his best games this year, Prince posted a season-high 23 points, hitting multiple threes in crunch time and showcasing the spacing the Bucks leaned on during much of the regular season. Throughout the year, his ability to stretch defenses, guard multiple positions, and stay ready in any lineup made him a trusted piece of Milwaukee’s rotation. However, Prince's impact waned in the postseason. In five playoff games, his minutes dipped to just over 12 per contest, and his production dropped to just above one point per game on 20% shooting. Despite a strong regular season, his diminished postseason performance left questions about his long-term fit in Milwaukee.

With a lot of uncertainty around the Bucks this offseason, especially with Giannis potentially forcing his way out, it might have been best for Prince to find himself a new home next season. Despite all that, Prince has reportedly re-signed with the Bucks on a two-year contract worth just over seven million dollars. As he prepares for his 10th NBA season and approaches age 32, the veteran forward offers reliable shooting, switchable defense, and locker room leadership. The Bucks are likely banking on his consistent perimeter efficiency and experience to bolster their wing rotation, whether as a spot starter or key bench piece. With his shooting touch as sharp as ever and a track record of adapting to different systems, Prince brings exactly the kind of dependable, low-maintenance role player many contenders look for. The continuance of this chapter of his career with Milwaukee could prove pivotal for both sides.
