Rockies Look to Upset Red-Hot Tigers at Coors Field

MLB

The Colorado Rockies return home to face the Detroit Tigers this Tuesday, May 6th at Coors Field. The Rockies currently hold the worst record in the MLB at 6-28 and are looking to stop the losing streak after a rough start to the season thus far. Their opponent, the 22-13 Tigers are currently sitting at the top of the AL Central which continuously brings momentum into their season. Despite the difference in records, there is still an unpredictable nature of the game with some hope still left for the Rockies.

Starting for the Rockies this game will be the right-hander Chase Dollander, a young arm with high potential but pretty inconsistent results so far. Dollander holds a 2-3 record with a 6.48 ERA across 25 innings pitched. He has struggled with control, giving up ten walks and surrendering eight home runs. The Rockies are hoping he can settle in and once again take advantage of the home game with an aspiring amount of potential from this young player.

On the other side, the Tigers will send rookie Jackson Jobe to the mound. Jobe has been one of their early-season success stories. He has a 2-0 record, a 3.38 ERA, and the Tigers have won all five of his starts this season. With a fastball that touches the upper nineties and sharp secondary pitches, Jobe has proven tough for the opposing hitters to figure out. His grit on the mound has quickly earned him trust in Detroit’s rotation.

Offensively, the Rockies have constantly lacked firepower and consistency throughout their season, ranking last in batting average and run production. Their team average sits at just .211, and their offense has struggled to generate momentum. Catcher Hunter Goodman has been a light for this team, leading them with five home runs and seventeen RBIs while batting .274. If Colorado hoped to hang with Detroit in this game, Goodman and the middle of the lineup would need to produce.

The Tigers feature a much more balanced and productive lineup. First baseman Spencer Torkelson leads the charge with ten home runs and twenty-seven RBIs, which shows the power that made him a top draft pick. Detroit’s team ERA of 2.96 ranks among the best in the league, truly complementing their offensive output. With a steady mix of veteran leadership and young talent, the Tigers have become a well-rounded contender.

While the Tigers are in favor of heading into this game, the unique environment of Coors Field has the potential to level the playing field. High altitude often turns ordinary games into slugfests, and both teams will need to adjust accordingly. For the Rockies, a strong start from Dollander and some timely hitting could be the key to an upset. Fans can catch the game at 8:40 pm tomorrow.
