What Signing This Former World Champion Means for the WWE Going Forward

WWE

Today, it was announced that the WWE has re-signed Alberto Del Rio. The former WWE Champion is the reigning AAA Mega Champion. This news comes from the WWE acquiring the Lucha Libre Promotion. The announcement was made during WrestleMania weekend. Del Rio could play a role in WWE’s upcoming Worlds Collide event, which is set for June 7th, the same day as the Money In The Bank Premium Live Event. After a weekend of releases, the WWE has made more room to sign Del Rio and other stars from AAA. However, what does this mean for the former World Heavyweight Champion? Is he only signed to AAA? Will he show up on Raw or SmackDown? Only time will tell, but it is an exciting time to join the WWE right now, and Del Rio's signing only adds to the excitement.

With all the accomplishments he had in the WWE, Alberto Del Rio did not leave the company on the best of terms. He was let go twice by the company. The first incident occurred in 2014 were he was fired due to “unprofessional conduct” following an altercation with a WWE employee. He resigned a year later but was then let go in 2016 after violating the company’s wellness policy. Del Rio was suspended for 30 days and then was released following a mutual agreement between him and the company. Many fans thought that Del Rio would never work for the company again. However, with the former United States Champion a major player in AAA, the WWE has changed their stance on the star.

Now, the 2011 Money in the Bank winner gets another shot to redeem himself for the company where he made his name. Just like CM Punk, Del Rio gets a shot at redemption and has the opportunity to introduce himself to old and new fans. The AAA Mega Champion will most likely be a part of the Worlds Collide event, but what could he do after that event? He could renew old rivalries with Penta, Rey Fenix, and Rey Mysterio. However, it is more likely that he puts over the younger talent like Dominik Mysterio and Dragon Lee. The possibilities are endless for Del Rio, and now with his recent signing, anything is possible.
