St. John’s Baseball Senior Named CCBL Playoff MVP

The Cape Cod League is where the best college baseball athletes go to keep their skills sharp in the summer. Athletes from across the country head up the East Coast to compete, showcase their talents, and prepare for the upcoming season. This past week, the Bourne Braves took the Cape Cod League Championships for the fourth time. On the starting roster for the Braves was St John’s University outfielder Jon LeGrande, who was named the season’s CCBL playoff MVP.

LeGrande made appearances in 36 of the Braves’ 38 games in the CCBL this summer. During the regular season, he dominated offensively, putting up a .288 batting average on 38 hits. In addition to the 38 hits, he also scored 23 runs for the Braves. LeGrande also showed off his speed on base, racking up an impressive 21 stolen bases in just 36 games. His talent extended past the regular season as the Braves pushed themselves forward into the CCBL postseason.

In the playoffs, LeGrande stepped up his game even more. His batting average improved to .444, and he added 12 hits to increase his hit count to 50. He also stole four more bases and contributed nine runs to the Braves’ record. The Bronx native contributed heavily to his team’s championship win against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. Bourne took down Yarmouth-Dennis a massive 19-2 to take the championship title. In the championship game, LeGrande went 1-for-2 at the plate, forcing three walks and scoring three runs.

As a transfer, 2025 was his first season with St. John’s, but it appeared like he’d been playing ball for the Red Storm for more than just a season. In the 2025 season, LeGrande excelled and became an immediate asset to the batting and defensive lineup. He made 28 starts last season, racking up a batting line of .298/.387/.413. In those 28 games, he also put up 15 runs for the Red Storm. As a rising senior, LeGrande is expected to be an important leader both in the locker room and on the diamond for the Red Storm this coming season.
