Super Bowl Rematch Set for Week Two

NFL

The full schedule for the 2025 NFL regular season will be revealed to the football world this evening. The fans of the 32 franchises of the league are waiting excitedly to see against who, where, and when their beloved teams will clash with their hated rivals and fierce opposition. However, for fans of the reigning NFC and AFC Champions, one of the most exciting matchups has already been revealed. The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in Week Two.

For the Chiefs, it is safe to say that their date against Philly is circled on the calendar. After being humiliated in the Super Bowl, Kansas City will want to make an early and decisive statement win against the team that cost them the first ever three-peat in Super Bowl history. While they cannot truly make up for the title loss, a win against the Eagles could potentially be an inverse reflection of recent history, as the Eagles themselves got a regular season revenge win against KC following Philly’s loss at Super Bowl LVII. The Chiefs still remain as the team to beat in the AFC, so a revenge win against the best the NFC has to offer would deliver a clear message to the league that Kansas City is still a juggernaut to be feared by all 31 other teams. However, if the Chiefs are defeated again as soundly as they were at Super Bowl LIX, it will raise serious questions about their remaining status as Lombardi Trophy favorites.

For the Eagles, it still remains an important game, if not fueled by the same desire for vengeance. Defeating Kansas City a second time with relatively a quick turnaround would solidly establish the Eagles as probable for another Super Bowl appearance, if not a title repeat of their own. However, Philly faces staunch competition right from the beginning of the regular season. Their first game of the season sees them face off against their long hated rivals in the Dallas Cowboys, before having to face the Chiefs in Kansas City just a week later. The one-two punch of a divisional game and a Super Bowl rematch in consecutive weeks will be a true test of the Eagles’ resolve coming into the 2025 season.
