Why Trick Williams Should Win the TNA Championship at Battleground

WWE

Trick Williams and Joe Hendry are set to face each other over the TNA Championship at WWE Battleground. This will likely be the main event as it pits the two biggest stars on the TNA and NXT brands, respectively, against each other. Since TNA and NXT reached an agreement on a multi-year partnership for talent crossovers, fans have been anticipating potential matchups such as this one. For the first time on a WWE Premium Live Event, the TNA Championship will be defended, and the odds-on favorite is for the champion to retain. However, both companies have the opportunity to pull off a massive swerve by crowning Trick Williams as the new TNA Champion.

Williams has had it out for Hendry ever since the TNA Champion came to NXT to confront Oba Femi over the NXT Championship, a championship that Williams has been trying to win back. Williams feels his opportunity was stolen by Hendry, so in return, he is going to take his championship from him. Trick Willy has embraced being a heel, and getting a win over the crowd favorite would put all eyeballs back on him. The WWE has done a great job this year of being unpredictable because you never know who is going to win a match on any given night. If Williams wins the title at Battleground, it would create the biggest moment in the crossover deal between the two brands. The leader of the Whoop That Trick Era could have fantasy matchups against the likes of Nic Nemeth, Moose, and Ace Austin as TNA stars try to win their company’s championship back from someone they would consider an “outsider.”

Trick Williams is a future main-eventer on the main roster, and he has shined as both a heel and a baby face on the NXT brand. Beating the Prestigious One for the TNA Title would benefit him and TNA because a WWE superstar is holding a title from an outside brand. TNA would get a new audience, and fans would be tuned in, even though the shows are taped. Williams can even play it off by saying something like he gave TNA the extra boost it needed. Battleground is an important event for Williams because winning the title would elevate him to a new level and set a precedent of what he could do when he eventually joins the WWE main roster.
