Texas A&M Baseball Finds Their Footing at the Right Time
Midway through the college baseball season, timing is everything. Anything can happen from May 1st until the start of the postseason, and national runner-up Texas A&M knows that. The Aggies began their season at the top of the polls. They had a great-looking team and a strong coaching staff, and had just nearly clinched a National Championship victory in Omaha. It was all laid out so nicely for them to have a strong season.
However, to the shock of fans and analysts across the country, the Aggies did not live up to their top-ranked expectations. In fact, they struggled so much at the beginning of the season that before long they’d vanished from the rankings altogether. How does the second-best team in the nation fall so far? Upset after upset gave unranked teams a favorable look, and the Aggies looked no better than average.
The first victory that changed it all was on April 5th against Tennessee. The Aggies wanted revenge for the loss they faced in the 2024 College World Series, and they got it. After their series win against the Vols, the Aggies were out for blood. They then managed to knock down three more ranked SEC teams, Arkansas, South Carolina, and most recently third third-ranked LSU.
While the Aggies still remain unranked, things are looking up. They will have to prove themselves against sixth-ranked Georgia in just about a week, but their odds of staying in the win column until then are high. A midweek matchup against Houston and a series against Missouri are their next obstacles on the road to a spot back in the rankings. Houston currently holds the same season record of 27-20, and a road win would be huge for this record.
Four games stand between the Aggies and their biggest series of the season. Four wins before the series may be exactly what they need to take down the Georgia Bulldogs on May 15th. If A&M wants to have a shot at taking down the Bulldogs, their bats have got to stay consistent. Scoring early and often, even against the toughest pitchers, or finding a way to rally toward the end of the game, will be crucial. Despite their rapid decline at the beginning of the season, the Aggies have found themselves in a great position heading into the final weeks of the regular season.
