The 2026 Giants Are Set to Take on the Commanders in Week Five

NFL

The New York Giants are on the road for the first time since Week Two. Now that Big Blue is 3-0 at home this season, it’s time to make a difference on the road and try to continue their winning streak. This week, New York is headed to Washington to take on the Commanders. The Giants' season has been a roller coaster so far, yet this week may be no different if they can pull off an explosive game-winner as they have in the past few weeks.

This is the 189th time that Big Blue will meet with Washington since the rivalry began in 1932. The Giants lead the series 104-72. The two have also met twice in the playoffs, and the Giants have beaten them once. Washington has won their last four meetings in recent years. However, this time may be a game changer.

With everything that has changed for Big Blue, this team may have a shot at winning. New head coach John Harbaugh has already worked wonders with both the offensive and defensive lines. Harbaugh is working with offensive line coach Matt Nagy and defensive coach Dennard Wilson, both of whom have also made a difference for the team in big ways. They have all found ways to move the ball downfield despite the blowout Week Two loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Giants don’t have Jaxson Dart, Brian Burns, among others who can usually get the job done. Even with these two out, New York has made the plays work. They have to find openings, make the stops they need, and get their current quarterback, Jameis Winston, moving the ball. That is what to look at in this matchup. If they can’t find ways to pull off these plays, New York may have to make some changes mid-game to get points on the board.

As much as the Giants have suffered, the Commanders have too. They have lost several players, including their own quarterback, Jayden Daniels. If New York can find ways to get to their quarterback, they may gain a step, as they have done in the past few weeks. They have monsters like Abdul Carter, Tremaine Edmunds, and Arvell Reese, all of whom have found ways into the pocket. Washington may have to worry about this before and during the game.

However, Washington sits at 1-3, while the Giants lead the NFC East Division at 3-1. Big Blue has a chance to get back on the board, depending on what they can do. New York has been climbing this season. They may continue that trend in Week Five. The Giants take on the Commanders on Sunday, October 11th at 1:00 p.m. EST.
