‘The Black Beast’ Seeks to Devour ‘Salsa Boy’
Derrick Lewis is ‘The Black Beast’, set to be either hunted or be hunted by his opponent, known as ‘Salsa Boy’, also known as Waldo Cortes Acosta. The fight between these two powerhouses will be viewable during UFC 324, where other top-ranked fights will be available to watch. This fight will be interesting to watch as spectators will see 260 pounds of pure adrenaline-fueled muscle rage inside the octagon. The other divisions do have tenacity, but Derrick will be even more ferocious as he looks to upset the rankings by moving up from his eighth position. Waldo will look to defend his third position from his hard-hitting opponent.
Lewis holds a 29-12-0 record against Waldo’s 16-2-0 record, meaning that experience definitely favors ‘The Black Beast’. However, it should be noted that Lewis has accrued age during his time with the UFC. Before, he was the defending Men’s Heavyweight Champion of the Legacy FC Heavyweight Championship. This could be why ‘Salsa Boy’ has an advantage in this fight, given his younger age. Plus, he lands more strikes per minute than his opponent on average, making it wise for Lewis to be light on his feet and possibly go for a takedown. Lewis hasn’t achieved a submission yet, but it's never too late for an old beast to learn new tricks. Of course, if Lewis decides to do this, Waldo has shown a higher takedown defense, making it unlikely it would be effective.
The most effective thing Lewis could do would be to run down the clock during the five-minute rounds they have and secure devastating strike after devastating strike. If he does this, then he could showcase the knockout power he’s been credited with in the past or at least score points with the judges for a decision win. Waldo will probably make this not feasible, as he prefers to finish his opponents with KO/TKOs like his opponent. In all likelihood, this will be a slugfest where power will be seen as the most important, as each fighter looks to gain the edge over the other. Fans will be pleased regardless because fights like this are fun to watch, as pure raw power is just as straightforward as the bill that will come due for each of these headhunters. Hopefully, they will answer and give the UFC a fight that rivals the current title fight on this fight card!
