The Cornerback the Cowboys Are Waiting to Make His Professional Debut

NFL

The Dallas Cowboys defense has been under a lot of scrutiny this season, and rightfully so. The defense line has struggled with poor pass rush, and the linebackers have had difficulty reading and reacting quickly to the offense. These issues have been prevalent throughout the season. The secondary has faced its own set of challenges, struggling to force turnovers consistently and often leaving receivers wide open during crucial moments of the game. Not one single player can help turn around the play, but the debut of this rookie with high expectations can certainly help.

Shavon Revel out of East Carolina, who Dallas chose in the third round of the previous draft, has everyone in the building excited for what he can do. He suffered an ACL injury, which cut his final year in college short, but the skill he displayed throughout his years in school was more than enough to get him drafted high. Stephen Jones said on the Cowboys' main radio station, 105.3 The Fan, that he has been excellent thus far in rehabbing from this injury, and Revel is everything they have envisioned and more. The hope for Dallas is that Revel can be a starter and a star one day, but his return has to come with patience.

While everyone is awaiting the return of Revel to help this struggling defense, some realization needs to happen. Revel is still a rookie who has yet to play on a professional field, and soon he will be facing the best competition in the world. He does have the benefit of going against some of the best receivers in the league during practice in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, which is going to help him right away; however, the difference between practice speed and game speed is very telling. Revel has all the tools and intangibles to become a stellar cornerback for the future of this Dallas defense, but everyone needs to remember he is a rookie coming back from a major injury making his first starts in the NFL, so having patience while he gets his feet back under him is key.
