What Did the Saints Offense Look Like in Week Seven?
The New Orleans Saints played their seventh game of the 2025 season on the road against the Chicago Bears, losing by a score of 26-14. Head coach Kellen Moore, who the broadcasters again reminded the audience that he is currently the youngest coach in the NFL, would face the opposition of current third-youngest head coach in the league Ben Johnson. The game would end in another loss for the Saints and the fourth consecutive win for the Bears. This would be another “roller coaster” of emotions for the fans of the black and gold who held onto the possibility of a win when the point deficit narrowed in the third quarter. Let’s take a look at some reasons that impacted the final score.
Rattler’s Interceptions Were Unacceptable
Spencer Rattler had a season-high three interceptions, with one occurring in the first half and the other two in the second half. Fortunately, the first two interceptions only turned into Chicago field goals, and the third didn’t result in a score. Before going into this game, Rattler was doing well out of six games with a single interception, which took place in their Week Three game in Seattle. You could almost say that Spencer was lucky with his interceptions in this game because they didn’t result in touchdowns. On the upside, he was able to successfully connect twice to score with one of the team’s most valuable wide receivers. Rattler will need to clean up his game in future matchups so not only the Saints can get back into the win column, but also keep his job as the starting QB.
WR Chris Olave Came Out to Play
Without his maneuvers, this game could have been a shutout. Their 14 points were the result of Chris Olave putting up the only points for the team. The two touchdowns are added onto his five receptions for 98 yards. Olave’s numbers almost repeat those of last week’s game, in which he had six receptions for 98 yards. His performance in Chicago should earn him the team’s award for “Player of the Week” upon their return to New Orleans. Hopefully, we will see a continued trend in the upcoming games of this wide receiver catching the ball to yield more touchdowns.
RB Alvin Kamara Couldn’t Make Any Decent Runs
Recently, Alvin Kamara has received a lot of attention regarding his future in New Orleans, and after his response to the question, you can add “loyalty” to his contributions to the team. This season, Kamara has added 314 rushing yards, 22 receptions, and one touchdown, with his previous game of 31 rushing yards being among the lowest out of the six games. The Bears’ defense was aware that this would be the player to cover and allowed him to only produce 28 rushing yards, with the longest rushing attempt only being a disappointing seven yards. His reception statistics didn’t fare much better, with three catches for one yard. The only positive news coming from his involvement in this game is his surpassing 12,000 yards from scrimmage. The Saints’ success, like all teams, pivots on the success of the running game, so Kamara’s lack of production needs to improve if the Saints want to get their offense in the endzone more than once per game.
