The Giants Fall Again to the Bears on the Road

NFL

The New York Football Giants' season is officially on its way out the door. In today's matchup against the Chicago Bears, they have formally fallen to 2-8. This game started on a good note, but took a turn in the fourth quarter, once again, for the second time this season. The Giants have had several games that they should have won during this season. However, with calls and penalties, the Giants continue to suffer, losing nearly all of their games. Here are several takeaways from this matchup.

1. Who Is Calling These Plays?

This is now the fourth consecutive road game that they have lost. They have struggled on every avenue, and no matter how they have tried to make things work, the Giants have found a way to fall one way or another. It’s not the Giants team itself that is causing these issues. Instead, it's the coaching staff that is behind the attempts to win the game. They are the ones telling the players what to do, and it really shows when they aren’t paying attention to what is happening. Brian Daboll, as the team's head coach, can’t make things happen for them. Even when he made some of the calls last year, the plays backfired on them completely, and they suffered during the season. It’s time for them to clean house and find new staff that can get the ball rolling with the Giants' rhythm in the best way possible.

2. The Offense Fell Apart

The offense got off to a strong start during this game. However, things didn’t go south until the Giants lost rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, who suffered a concussion during this game. The Giants were able to get the ball really moving while Dart was on the field, and he scored two touchdowns for them, which helped them take the lead. They were able to get passes down the field. Once Dart went out for the rest of the game and Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson went in, this is when the Giants had their second official meltdown. Balls were being dropped, and Wilson was being sacked on several occasions. The team should turn to Jameis Winston if Dart is going to be out for the next few weeks. Wilson was benched for not getting the plays done that needed to be done on the field.

3. The Defensive Line Did Nothing for the Second Week in a Row

The defensive line is a hot mess within itself. This is the second week in a row where the Giants have let their opponents get past them and just run up the field. This happened at the end of the fourth quarter. They were unable to sack the Bears' quarterback, Caleb Williams, or secure any interceptions during this game. This defensive line was also called for multiple penalties, which ultimately hindered their performance during the game. With each one called, it allowed both scoring attempts and first downs, putting the Giants at a disadvantage and causing them to lose opportunities with the ball.
