The New Big Blue Duo Wrecking Crew
The New York Giants are showing increasing promise during their OTAs. They are already happy with their new veteran quarterbacks, Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and rookie Jaxson Dart. However, it’s not only the offense that has been showing promise. The defense has also begun to get in the middle of it all. The franchise is already hyped that they are about to see a new dynamic duo on the defensive line: Brian Burns and Abdul Carter.
The team already looks like it is doing a fantastic job rebuilding. The paper shows that both the defensive and offensive lines are intact. The coaching staff can already see what they are working with on days one and two. They can tell who needs to be a backup and who will start. That said, OTAs have already proven that Burns and Carter are Big Blue's newest wrecking crew. They’re both edge rushers and already have what it takes to make the stops that need to be made.
Burns' first season with the New York Giants began in 2024. He was initially with the Carolina Panthers, their 2019 NFL Draft pick, with the 16th overall selection, before he was traded to the Giants. During his first season, Burns recorded 71 combined tackles, eight and a half sacks, eight passes defended, and two forced fumbles. He is tied for the eighth most sacks with a total of 54.5 in the NFL since he was drafted in 2019.
On the other hand, Carter is just as heavy as Burns. He was the highest draft pass rusher they had picked since Lawrence Taylor, whom they drafted in 1981. Carter had a great college career and is already continuing his streak with the Giants. In over three seasons, he has appeared in 42 games, had 35 starts, made 172 total tackles, and had only 104 solo tackles. The Giants have brought a monster onto the roster, something they have needed to fill the gap for a while.
This defensive line already has true potential. Burns and Carter are expected to start outside as the edge rushers this coming season. They will also have both Dexter Lawrence and Kayvon Thibodeaux, who will be on the field with them. Lawrence has already proven that it is a significant factor in what the Giants' defensive line can do. He brings the pressure, and it will be better now that it will not only be Burns and Lawrence doing most of the work. Everyone on the defensive line is ready to work with both of them. Many Giants opponents they will face this season should be nervous about this coming season, with these heavies being on the defensive line.
