The Rangers Unleash Early Offensive Explosion to Claim 2026 Series Opener Over the Blue Jays

MLB

The Texas Rangers traveled to Rogers Centre for game one of their four-game series, took the lead early, and didn’t look back. Winning the game 6-3, they looked strong on the road against a team that’s destined for a playoff run. It started with a barrage of home runs by the Rangers against Kevin Gausman of the Blue Jays, running up his pitch count early. For the Rangers, MacKenzie Gore started on the mound and had an extremely efficient outing, providing some length and pitching seven full innings. These two teams will battle it out tomorrow evening, June 26th, at 6:07 PM CT for game two of the series.

Early Bird Gets the Worm

The Rangers got off to an early lead thanks to power-hitting designated hitter Joc Pederson, as he skied a 402-foot no-doubter of a home run after an 11-pitch battle against Gausman. Pederson, the 34-year-old two-time World Series Champion, is having himself one heck of a season, and arguably his best statistical season so far since joining the Rangers. In the last 15 games, the presumptive leadoff hitter is hitting a decent .264 AVG, with five home runs, 12 RBI, and five walks. He’s been disciplined at the plate, only striking out eight times in 53 at-bats. The experienced outfielder has 12 home runs on the season so far, and when he’s hitting from the leadoff spot, he’s able to give his squad the momentum right off the bat. He’s hitting .273 in 29 games, with seven home runs and 17 RBI when in that leadoff spot. In the top of the third inning, young Ranger’s phenom Wyatt Langford was able to get ahold of a lousy slider down and in the strike zone, and sent it deep into left-center field for a three-run home run, bringing himself, Nicky Lopez, and Pederson making the score 4-0. Sitting at 44 pitches in the game, Gausman had already been used and abused by the Rangers’ hitters, but the nightmare he’d found himself in would only continue as on pitch 55, first baseman Jake Burger towered a 378-foot two-run home run to left field to stretch the lead to 6-0. The offense simmered down a bit after this bombardment of home runs, but it was just enough to get the Rangers a much-needed win.

The Bullpen Is the Rangers’ Saving Grace

Don’t get me wrong, Gore had a really efficient performance on the mound tonight, but it was later in the game where the Blue Jays started to read the ball right out of his hand and get a hold of some hits. David Schneider was able to get an RBI sac fly in the bottom of the fifth inning as he launched a fastball to center field, scoring Kazuma Okamoto from third base. After that, still in the bottom of the fifth, Myles Straw doubled a liner sharply to left field and scored Alejandro Kirk and Nathan Lukes. Toronto was able to cut the lead in half, 6-3, at that point, but the young emerging ace was able to stretch his outing to seven innings, allowing his relievers, Jakob Junis and Jake Latz, to take the reins and give their team the win. Junis worked one inning and only needed 18 pitches to get a strikeout and retire the side. Latz pitched one inning as well, but he was met with a last-minute effort from the Blue Jays as Okamoto blasted a 420-foot homer to straight-center field to get Toronto within one run. It wasn’t enough, though, as Brandon Valenzuela struck out looking on a heater down the gut of the strike zone for the final out, securing a road win for the Rangers. The bullpen, as a whole, is in the top third of Major League Baseball with a cumulative ERA of 3.60, with 22 saves and a whopping 240 strikeouts. If they can continue this streak, along with the Rangers maybe adding some pieces near the trade deadline, the Rangers can quickly become a dark-horse candidate for the playoffs.
