This New York Jets Receiver is Poised for a Big Time Year
Over the past three years, Jets receiver Garrett Wilson has solidified himself as one of the best young receivers in the league. He has posted three straight 1,000+ yard seasons since coming into the league in 2022, and has done so with mostly sub-optimal quarterback play. Wilson is no question the alpha in the Jets’ receiving room, and looks to be a big part of the Jets’ future plans on offense. In 2025, the fourth-year receiver seems poised to have his best year yet.
No one would blame you for thinking that the New York Jets’ receiver room is one of the weakest parts of this young team. Other than Wilson, the next best receiver on the team is expected to be one of two players. One is Josh Reynolds, a 30-year-old who had under 200 yards last season, and the other is Allen Lazard, a player who’s had the highest drop percentage in the league in each of the last two seasons. Lazard has also failed to put up very good performances without future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. Former third-round pick Malachi Corley is also on the roster, but he projects to be more of a gadget player and returner than a true number two.
This leaves Garrett as one of the only legitimate pass-catching threats on the team. Wilson has already been showing out in both OTAs and minicamp. Almost half of quarterback Justin Fields’ passes went to Wilson on day two of minicamp, and Aaron Glenn has said that there will be a big point of their offense to get him the ball as much as possible during the season. Even though many project the Jets offense to be more run-heavy with their stacked running back room and Fields at quarterback, Wilson is still set to be a focal point of the scheme.
Wilson is without a doubt the most talented receiver the Jets have had on the team since at least Brandon Marshall in 2015, who had over 1500 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns with Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing him the ball. Now that Wilson won’t have to share the spotlight with former All-Pro Davante Adams, he is primed for a similar season. Maybe he doesn’t have as many yards or touchdowns due to the nature of the offense, but the ball has to go somewhere, and there aren’t many other places for it to go. Wilson will prove this season why he deserves to be paid like one of the best receivers in the NFL.
