Three Big Takeaways from the 2026 Giants Week Four Win

NFL

The New York Giants once again found a way to win on Sunday. After trailing 14-3 early, the G-men came back to beat the Arizona Cardinals 36-24 in a huge home game at MetLife Stadium. The win keeps the Giants atop the NFC East with a 3-1 record and an undefeated home record. While the final score looked great for fans, the Giants still had to go through another up-and-down game to pull off the close win. Here are three of the biggest takeaways from the Giants' Week Four victory.

Malik Nabers is beginning to look like himself again

After missing most of last season with a knee injury, Malik Nabers finally put on the performance fans and coaches have been looking for. Nabers finished the game with six grabs for 112 yards and a score. It was his first game of the season with over 100 yards and his first score. New York needed the former first-round pick to start heating up if they wanted the season to go as planned, and Sunday's game showed how dangerous he still is while silencing critics. With the G-men now 3-1, getting the former LSU tiger back to being the biggest part of the receiving game may be one of the best parts of the season.

The defense keeps making clutch plays

The Giants' defense didn't have its best day, but it came through when it mattered most. Arizona built an 11-point lead with its first two drives, but the defense adjusted and improved throughout the game. Rookie linebacker Arvell Reese was one of the players who showed out on defense. Reese has gotten better every game so far. He diagnosed run plays effectively and even generated pressure, which the Giants need with star edge rusher Brian Burns out for the season. The rookie even recorded his first career interception off a batted ball, deflecting it away from defensive tackle Shelby Harris. Abdul Carter also showed out, constantly pressuring the quarterback. The biggest play of the night, though, came from the secondary. With Arizona looking for a game-winning score from inside the red zone on fourth and goal, cornerback Deonte Banks intercepted Jacoby Brisset and took it to the end zone to put the game away. The Giants' defense once again showed up when the big moments called for it.

JJ McCarthy needs to step in at quarterback

Jameis Winston didn't have a great start once again, to say the least. While he did just enough to help the Giants win, he continued to struggle with turnovers. Winston had a couple of big plays, throwing two touchdowns but also throwing two interceptions in the close win. After this game, it was clear that the veteran quarterback is just barely keeping this team afloat, and it may be time to turn to the newly acquired JJ McCarthey. While we don't exactly know how McCarthey will turn out for this team, it's easy to see the Giants won't be able to beat the top teams with this type of quarterback performance, and a switch-up is necessary to see if the offense can turn it up a notch and help them stay on top of the NFC East.
