Three Fall Scrimmage Games to Cure Your College Baseball Withdrawals

While October and November usually mark the height of the college football season, baseball fans will also very briefly get their fix of college ball. Fall exhibition matchups give teams the chance to play teams outside of their conference and work out the kinks early to start the spring season locked in and ready to go. Not every team hosts a fall matchup that presents itself as a challenge. For example, this season, the Tar Heels at UNC, who were the early favorite to win last season’s CWS, are hosting a junior college team in the Bosh for their 2025 fall scrimmage. However, there are also a few matchups that the die-hard college baseball fans should settle in and watch this fall.

Texas A&M v. TCU

The Texas A&M Aggies had a disappointing start to the 2025 season. They began their season at the top of the rankings and immediately started to drop until they were ultimately erased from the top 25 rankings. An almost perfectly average season in the books for the Aggies with a 30-26 record. Fall baseball will be their chance to prove that they deserve a spot back in the top 25 rankings for the 2026 season. On October 10th, the Aggies will host the TCU Horned Frogs, who were quite successful this past season, finishing their season in the Round of 64.

Mississippi State v. FSU

The Florida State Seminoles dominated both in ACC play and postseason. The Seminoles finished their season in the Corvallis Super Regional with a 42-16 overall record. On October 18th, the Bulldogs of Mississippi State will get a rematch against the Seminoles, who ended their season back on June 1st in the Tallahassee Regional. The Bulldogs fell not once but twice to the Seminoles in the Round of 64. FSU is a dominant team on both sides of the ball. Without a homefield advantage, the Bulldogs will have to make sure their bats are hot and their bullpen is able to consistently find the strike zone in order to keep up with the Seminoles in this fall ball matchup.

Vanderbilt v. Utah

The Utah Utes struggled in their first season in the Big 12 conference, with an 8-22 conference record in the 2026 season. This fall, they will be put to the test against one of the SEC’s best. Vanderbilt had an ultimately successful season in the SEC, going 43-18 by the end of the postseason. Even without winning their conference championship, the Vandy Boys were given the one seed heading into the NCAA tournament. Utah will have the home-field advantage, but after losses to the MLB Draft and transfer portal, they’ll have to make major adjustments to their game to keep up with Vandy this fall.
