Trade Now or Wait? Rangers Face Crucial Decision as Trade Deadline Nears

NHL

We're nearly 24 hours from the NHL Trade Deadline, and things are looking a bit shaky for the New York Rangers. Since general manager Chris Drury made it clear that the Rangers were entering a retooling stage, fans everywhere were intrigued by the return of these veterans. Since sending Artemi Panarin to the Los Angeles Kings, fans have questioned Drury's abilities even more on whether he's the right person for the retool. Despite an anti-climactic outcome for Panarin, there's one New York veteran the Rangers can get a big haul out of. Despite plenty of teams expressing interest in the veteran, they don’t seem close to working out a deal, prompting fans to wonder whether a trade will be made within the final 24 hours. As the deadline approaches, will the Rangers have to wait until the offseason to deal with Vincent Trocheck?

It's no doubt been a rough two seasons for the Blueshirts; it's hard to see a clear future for this team after such a major collapse. Despite a promising sign from their prospect in the Kings, there's really no telling when this team can return to contention. In the eyes of competing, one more trade prospect and a good draft this offseason may be their only chance to be competitive within the next three to four seasons. With teams all around sparking interest in Trocheck, it's clear most of the NHL sees him as a key piece in the postseason. When it comes to a playoff performer like the 32-year-old center, a first-round pick and a prospect can almost be guaranteed in return. However, there's a big difference between trading a player like Trocheck and just giving him away, so would it be necessarily bad to wait until the offseason to deal with the Pittsburgh native?

When it comes to the NHL, most fans may not be as patient as most, but that's all New York fans can be these days. Plenty were ecstatic thinking the kind of haul the Blueshirts could get for Trocheck, and while that may be the case, they may have to wait a few more months for that said haul. Yes, the timing is perfect for a team like the Minnesota Wild or the Detroit Red Wings to go all in as the postseason approaches, but that doesn't mean a good offer will present itself. Fans were utterly disappointed with the kind of return New York received for Panarin, so it leaves Drury with no room for error when dealing with Vincent Trocheck. Regardless, what's clear is that they can't just give Trocheck away so easily, especially given how much his value could have gone up after his gold medal win in Milan. Time is ticking, and the deadline approaches. Can the Rangers find a deal they want, or will fans get to enjoy Vincent Trocheck a little while longer?
