Trio of New York Prospects Look to Take the Next Step After Development Camp
With a major retool needed for the New York Rangers, the Blueshirts look for some unique prospects to set them up for the future. After last season's unfortunate end, any sign of young talent is favorable, especially with young prospect Gabriel Perreault looking to hop on the ice next season. Decisions will be made in training camp on which players are to play center to start the season, and some interesting prospects have been noticed in that position. A few intriguing prospects have been catching the eyes of a few, all of which are developing together, something New York fans certainly haven’t seen in some time. As an important season down in Hartford approaches, these three prospects will be closely watched, but are they ready to take the next step in their development?
While it’s obvious these three are a while from cracking the New York roster, with some quick development, it may possibly be quicker than fans may think. The trio of Noah Laba, Carey Terrance, and Dylan Roobroeck has surprised quite a few so far. Prospects like this could be perfect for the New York Rangers’ future. As of right now, players like Mika Zibanejad, J.T. Miller, and Vincent Trocheck are on the varsity and can play center; it all just comes down to their new head coach's decision. Zibanejad could be put on the wing, leaving some potential for the middle of the third line, where some players may be viewed as temporary for now. With depth like this for the middle, this could be huge for New York, and after trading away their old center Filip Chytil, they’ll definitely take any prospect they can get these days. As the development camp is now done, let's see how the offseason is treating this young trio.
Dylan Roobroeck made a pretty strong first impression as a sixth-round pick, leading all of Hartford with 20 goals in his rookie year. Improving as the year went on, it gave him more opportunities on the power play, leading to more production. Noah Laba has shown to be quite a mature player, scoring a shorty in his debut in Hartford, fitting in just fine with the older men. As someone who fits well with the tone, especially with his kind of defense, his kind of play could be a great fit in the middle of that third line. Carey Terrance, acquired in the trade sending Chris Kreider to Anaheim, has been described as a solid two-way player. As the youngest of the three, his leadership and competitive quality don’t go unnoticed, along with his determination to work very hard and be coached to success. Three very promising center prospects to keep an eye on for New York, and with the determination they have to offer, fans can very much expect great things from them in the coming future, whether in the NHL or AHL.
