UConn Men’s Basketball Builds One of the Toughest Schedules in 2026-27 Season

Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies are preparing for one of the toughest schedules they will ever face. Hurley built the program's hardest schedule last season with opponents including BYU, Kansas, Arizona, Illinois, Florida, and Texas. This tough out-of-conference line-up helped them prepare for March as they made a run all the way to the National Championship Game. After losing key players such as Alex Karaban and Tarris Reed Jr., the Huskies went out and built another grueling itinerary. No matter who the Huskies seem to lose, they are still frontrunners to cut down the nets.

The program’s 2026-27 schedule includes top-tier opponents such as Duke, Virginia, Kansas, Ohio State, and Arizona, as well as a National Championship rematch against Michigan. Their continuation of tough schedules comes after the 2024-25 season, in which UConn participated in the Maui Invitational with a disastrous 0-3 performance. Hurley took a new approach, favoring a stronger schedule against top opponents over smaller tournaments. The tougher opponents help the Huskies build their Quad One resumes and prepare for tough March Madness matchups. This comes especially after the new format expanded the tournament to 76 teams. It becomes a win-win scenario for high-end programs looking for tougher competition and preparing for the larger tournament run.

The Huskies have now made the National Championship three times in the last four years, winning it in back-to-back years in 2023 and 2024. Their deep run last season adds to Hurley’s legacy, putting him down as one of the best coaches in the modern era. Building a powerhouse program up in Storrs, it is no wonder they call it “The Basketball Capital of the World.” It starts with building the right roster and the right schedule, both of which UConn has taken charge of for this upcoming season.

After losing some crucial players, they found their next lineup and strong help from the bench to form another successful season. They brought in transfers such as Nikolas Khamenia from Duke, Najai Hines from Seton Hall, Oskar Giltay from Stanford, and Nils Machowski from Wofford. These new players will need to step into the spotlight for the Huskies, paired with some strong returning players such as Braylon Mullins and Silas Demary Jr. Mullins was unsure if he would declare for the NBA Draft or continue with the Huskies, but he decided to remain with UConn and fight for another national title run. It will be a tough season for UConn after losing players and the tough calendar they have planned. When in doubt, there is never a time when you should count out Hurley and the Connecticut Huskies.
