Veteran Steelers Quarterback Excited to Finish His Career in Pittsburgh
Aaron Rodgers has been open about 2025 likely being his final year as an NFL player. He recently said that he’s excited to finish out his NFL career “the right way” as a Steeler. Rodgers spoke with the Golf Channel on Saturday at the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe. He revealed what he’s looking forward to this season with the Steelers. Rodgers said, “I’m excited about being at such a great franchise with the Hall of Fame head coach [Mike Tomlin], and I’ve enjoyed getting to know Arthur Smith, our coordinator. The quarterback coach actually was in my quarterback room a million years ago. I’ve known Tom Arth since we were young kids without any gray. So it’s fun.” He added, “It’s a good quarterback room. It’s good leadership in the locker room. Great fan base, and I’m just excited to get back out there and finish it the right way.”
The Jets released Rodgers from his contract on March 12th of this year. Rodgers visited the Steelers and met with head coach Mike Tomlin on March 21st. Since his visit, there has been ongoing speculation about whether or not he would join the team. Rodgers officially signed with the Steelers in early June. While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show in late June, Rodgers said that this season would likely be his last in the NFL. That’s why he inked a one-year contract with the Steelers. He gets a chance to wear the legendary Black and Gold and finish his career on a high note, especially after having two rough years in New York.
Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger retired after the 2021 season. Rodgers will become the Steelers’ fifth starting quarterback to begin the season since Roethlisberger retired. Even though he’s 41, Rodgers can still throw the football at a high level. He was still playing well late last season. The Steelers have added some high-profile names to their roster during this offseason. The team is hopeful that Rodgers can help them win playoff games. If Rodgers can do that this season, he’ll be able to end his NFL career the right way.
