Will This Former Maryland Receiver Erupt or Fall in 2025?
The Chicago Bears have had one of the biggest offseasons in their franchise's history. From brand new head coach Ben Johnson to fixing the entire interior offensive line, the Bears are looking to have a competitive season after multiple disappointing years. One of the biggest acquisitions of their offseason came from the NFL Draft in wide receiver Luther Burden III, strengthening an already impressive wide receiving room. A part of that skill group is D.J. Moore, who is coming off a quieter season in 2024. The question looming in Chicago now for the Bears’ best receiver the past two seasons is whether that will continue or will he fall behind his new teammates?
Moore caught for 966 yards and six touchdowns last season. While the stat line remains impressive, it would fall short of past seasons on both the Bears and the Carolina Panthers. Moore’s best season would come in his first year with Chicago in 2023, with 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns. The Bears now have both talented wide receivers Burden and Rome Odunze, giving quarterback Caleb Williams more options past Moore. He will also have a new weapon in their 10th overall pick, tight end Colston Loveland. While the options may not seem like they are in Moore’s favor to receive the ball more, all hope may not be lost and actually may set him up for better results.
Now that Chicago will have multiple threats on offense, this may open up Moore for more opportunities to get open. The attention is now not all focused on the veteran, and will be spread to his rookie teammates. Another positive for Moore comes in the form of a brand new, offensive-minded coach who will be able to better play to his strengths. Johnson was able to develop wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown into one of the best in the league, and will now get the opportunity to create another superstar in an already impressive player. 2025 is looking to treat the Bears kindly, and Moore will be a player to keep an eye on this season as he looks to return to form with his new coach.
