Week Six Fantasy Football Losers
If the 2025 NFL Season has told us anything through six weeks, it is that the NFL is extremely unpredictable, and we know nothing. Both the Eagles and Bills lost to unsuspecting opponents, the Ravens limp into the bye week with a 1-5 record, Justin Fields was sacked nine times in a two-point loss, and the Lions fell to the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football with extremely questionable officiating. Week Six featured many who were drafted early in most drafts, but produced next to nothing. These players probably cost many owners a win and could come back to bite them when it comes to fantasy football playoff tiebreakers. Here are seven players who were expecting to have a larger impact in Week Six of the 2025 NFL Season, but fell extremely short.
QB Bo Nix – (13.36), RB J.K. Dobbins – (4.0), WR Courtland Sutton – (2.7)
J.K. Dobbins and Courtland Sutton are not necessarily in the group of players that were drafted in the earlier rounds of fantasy drafts, but the expectations were high after consecutive strong games and then a favorable matchup against the then 0-5 New York Jets. Second-year QB Bo Nix completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards and the only touchdown of the entire game for both teams. However, the touchdown went to backup TE Nate Adkins, rather than Dobbins, Sutton, or even Evan Engram or Marvin Mims. Dobbins led the team in carries and rushing yards with 14 and 40, respectively, but fell victim to seven other players taking a total of 12 carries away from him. On the other hand, Sutton only had one reception for 17 yards after three consecutive games of 17 or more fantasy points. I would not jump to conclusions with this group of Broncos, but be aware that they can offer bad weeks in an offense that could spread the ball out and hurt their stars.
RB Saquon Barkley – (8.7 Fantasy Points)
The Eagles' offense has been borderline terrible the entire season so far. Terrible might be a stretch to describe a team that is 4-2, but it is because they struggle to get the ball to the playmakers. A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith are not strangers to the list, but no one really expected Saquon Barkley, the RB who ran for 2,000 yards last year, to average three yards per carry for 54 yards per game this season. In 2024, the eventual Offensive Player of the Year averaged 125 yards per game and almost six yards per carry, but hasn’t sniffed that yet in the new campaign. It could be the ‘Madden Curse’ or the fact that Kellen Moore is no longer their offensive coordinator. At the end of the day, Barkley will have to remain in starting lineups due to his ceiling, while giving the benefit of the doubt to his slow start to 2025.
RB Jahmyr Gibbs – (7.5 Fantasy Points)
The Lions came into Arrowhead for a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs and lost in a game that everyone expected to be closer. While being in a semi-committee with David Montgomery, Jahmyr Gibbs led in carries and yards with 17 carries for 65 yards, but failed to score. It is naïve to think that every player on a stacked roster can score in every game, but the chances are higher when the team is an offensive juggernaut like the Lions. It is clear that the Chiefs’ defense planned their game around stopping Gibbs, and it worked. Similar to the Eagles, the Lions had to replace both of their coordinators in the offseason, but considering this is only their second loss of 2025, I would chalk this game up to a great defensive showing by Steve Spagnuolo and the Chiefs.
WR Emeka Egbuka – (4.4 Fantasy Points)
This feels like a low blow to a player who never really had a chance to succeed due to injury. However, since he did not overly contribute to the Bucs’ offense, Emeka Egbuka unfortunately finds himself on the list of fantasy football losers of the week. It is unclear when Egbuka injured his hamstring. Still, the star receiver and potential Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate was seen standing on the sidelines during the third quarter before being ruled out early in the fourth quarter. Before his exit, Egbuka recorded two receptions for 27 yards, leaving Baker Mayfield with only Sterling Shepard, Kameron Johnson, and Tez Johnson, since Mike Evans and Chris Godwin were already ruled out before kickoff. Egbuka’s availability for Week Seven is in jeopardy, so keep that in mind while setting your lineups in the coming days.
WR Puka Nacua – (4.8 Fantasy Points)
Puka Nacua is another receiver who got hurt in the game and was essentially a ghost on the field for their team. In a preview for the Rams and Ravens matchup, I said that the candidate for Offensive Player of the Year and a 2,000-yard receiving season had the chance to torch the Ravens' defense. I wasn’t wrong, but in no way was I right. The Rams won the game 17-3 because the Ravens couldn’t finish drives and turned the ball over, but Puka only had two receptions for 28 yards before falling awkwardly for a touchdown grab and leaving the game. It was described as an ankle sprain, but Nacua miraculously returned to the game after he was helped straight off the field into the locker room. Nacua’s presence on the field for the second half was largely a decoy role, which is not reassuring considering the risk of exacerbating the injury with three more months of football left to play. Head coach Sean McVay also said that Nacua’s status for Week Seven is up in the air, so start with caution. If Nacua cannot play, rely on Davante Adams, Tutu Atwell, and Jordan Whittington.
Honorable Mentions (Josh Allen, James Cook, Garrett Wilson, Javonte Williams, Quinshon Judkins)
Just as it is impossible to recognize all of the players who balled out in Week Six, it is also impossible to recognize those who fell short in the same week. Josh Allen and James Cook fell short to the Falcons in a 10-point loss, with Allen only throwing for 180 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Cook was only used in the run game for 87 yards, which is great production, but with no catches or touchdowns, his value for the week was not met. Garrett Wilson, as a product of Justin Fields’ 50% completion rate and 45 passing yards, was only able to haul in three of his eight targets for 13 yards in the 13-11 loss to Denver in London. Javonte Williams fell victim to the Dallas air attack with 8.4 fantasy points, but only because of the five receptions for five yards added to his 29 yards on 13 carries. Lastly, Quinshon Judkins and the entire Cleveland Browns offense were stopped by the Pittsburgh Steelers, only scoring via field goals. Judkins’ last four games, he had 50 or more yards for more than four yards per carry, but fell short with just 36 yards versus the stout 4-1 Steelers defense. I would expect all these players, recognized today, to bounce back sooner rather than later, but if they don’t, is there really anything we can do other than hope they bounce back the week after?
