What Happened to ‘The Don of NXT’?
It has been over two months since we last saw ‘The Don of NXT’, Tony D’Angelo, on television. The last time we saw D’Angelo was on the July 29th episode of NXT, where, during a pre-taped promo, he was confronted by a shadowy figure. It’s still unknown who this hidden figure was and why they approached ‘The Don’ in the first place. NXT has given us plenty of reasons to be excited, but the absence of a major character like Tony D is still strongly felt. While it appeared like we weren’t going to get answers right away, it has been two months too long. Everyone is wondering what happened to ‘The Don of NXT’?
Heading to the Main Roster?
It’s certainly plausible that Tony D is gearing up to be called up to either Monday Night Raw or Friday Night SmackDown. Some believed the shadowy figure was Seth Rollins, as D’Angelo could easily make a name for himself as another member of Rollins’ faction, ‘The Vision’, yet no hints or clues have been showcased. Others believed the shadowy figure back on that July 29th episode of NXT could be Adam Pearce, the general manager of Raw. Adding new talent to the main roster is a necessity at this point, as the main roster needs another draft or more call-ups from NXT. During his pre-taped promo, D’Angelo wore a red button-down underneath his suit, which some have pointed out is the clue he’s heading to Raw. It’s coming down to the point where guys like Tony D, Oba Femi, Trick Williams, Ethan Page, along with others, need a jump to the main roster.
Shift in a New Character?
Since that cliffhanger pre-taped promo, we truly don’t know what happened to ‘The Don of NXT’. Has NXT decided to quietly kill this character off and shift Tony D into another diverging character? This may be the case, as not only has Tony D’Angelo been missing from NXT, but so have D’Angelo’s former family members in Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo, Luca Crusifino, and Adriana Rizzo. It’s truly something fans of NXT have been patiently waiting to find out. Perhaps Tony D will still be on NXT but performing as a completely new character.
Injured? Or Time Off? Push to the Main Roster on Hold
Another option may be that Tony is either dealing with an injury or is just taking time off before being called back to work once again. These may be likely, however, WWE or NXT has not reported about an injury to ‘The Don of NXT’. Plus, the cliffhanger pre-taped promo would be something strange to have air before sending someone off to work for nearly two months. The questions surrounding D’Angelo’s disappearance have been going around still, and it’s time NXT gives us those answers.
