What Is Next for a 33-Year-Old Featherweight Fighter?

UFC

Steve Garcia is coming off a huge win against David Onama at UFC Vegas 110. Garcia secured the knockout victory in the first round, which turned many heads in the Featherweight Division. This win continues the winning streak for the 33-year-old fighter, which is now at seven, six of which were knockouts. Garcia has proven his ability in the octagon and has many excited to see what is next.

From the opening bell, Garcia applied heavy pressure to his opponent. He landed heavy strikes and completely overwhelmed Onama with his combinations. This victory, along with the win streak he is on, gives a lot of context to his career in the UFC. It did not start easily, nor did it start in the Featherweight Division. Garcia entered the UFC as a lightweight, which proved to have many challenges. He suffered a first-round knockout in 2022, which ultimately prompted his move down to the Featherweight Division. However, this move has proven to be the right one as it has paid off tremendously. Garcia started to make major improvements in his striking strength and also focused on bringing a lot of pressure. The hard work paid off as he has stayed consistent and scored some major victories over tough opponents. The momentum is on his side with victories over SeungWoo Choi, Kyle Nelson, and now David Onama. Going forward, Garcia will have some challenges, but can also keep dominating. Having scored a first-round knockout as the headlining fight, more talented opponents will be knocking on his door. Garcia should capitalize on his momentum and focus hard on his training. Specifically, his cardio and takedown defense which will pose higher risks against more experienced fighters.

A high-profile win can definitely boost the 33-year-old fighter's credibility. He is at a dominant point in his career, scoring many wins in the latest stretch of his career. Taking this momentum to the next level can establish Steve Garcia as one of the more elite fighters in the Featherweight Division. The fighter out of New Mexico has a lot of potential, with many excited to see what he can do.
