What New Jersey Can Give Dallas to Acquire Six-Year Veteran

NHL

A big offseason awaits the New Jersey Devils. Looking to make up for their injured team's unfortunate exit, this team searches for any kind of upgrade to the roster. With the right kind of moves, this team can easily make the jump from contenders to Stanley Cup favorites next season. Multiple different ways present themselves for GM Tom Fitzgerald to take advantage of. Some opportunities for the bottom six are open, some to open the chance for depth scoring, but some of the best players available could also be a route to go. With some great players added to the top six, some already there will be forced to move down. Players like Jack Hughes and Timo Meier already present this team with dangerous shots. Imagine another joining the fun? Players like Sam Bennet or Mitch Marner could be potential targets, but there’s a player in Dallas who would be a game-changer.

Word is that Dallas is interested in trading their star, Jason Robertson. With the word out there, New Jersey would be smart to be in pursuit quickly for a player like Robertson. Multiple deals are possible, but how can New Jersey go about this the right way? Dallas certainly wouldn’t want to add salary, so some young assets would be the way to go at this. The Devils have the prospects, no doubt. Simon Nemec is a defenseman that Dallas would be happy to take. Plenty of Devils prospects have proven they will soon be regulars in the NHL, meaning any of these defensemen prospects would be beneficial for Dallas. Any developing defenseman on a line with Miro Heiskanen is bound to do wonders on defense. It’s obvious with Robertson available that New Jersey will need to always take advantage of this offseason with top players like him.

Coming off yet another season with more than 80 points, Robertson is yet another player who can make this Devils team a nightmare. Though if made, talks of his next pay raise will need to be brought up, possibly one of the biggest contracts the Devils ever faced, but it sets up so much more. If it were to happen, no price would ever be too high, especially when it comes to turning a team into Stanley Cup favorites. Overall, a player like Robertson coming up in trade talks serves as a big message of what’s to come this offseason for New Jersey already. More big names will present themselves surely, the Devils must be prepared to pursue very quickly to meet their Stanley Cup goal next season. The Stanley Cup Finals have begun, which means soon the season will conclude, and those big names will be up for the taking, so let's hope New Jersey can keep their eyes open this summer.
