What the Bears 27-Year-Old Safety Can Bring In 2026
Training camp is well underway in the NFL, as the season draws closer. The Chicago Bears were one of the most exciting teams in 2025, leading to sky-high expectations going into this year. The Bears made a lot of changes this offseason, beginning by hitting reset on the defensive side of the ball. Luckily for the team, they were able to make some splashes to fill the empty spots, which included safety Dillion Thieneman in the 2026 NFL Draft. While they’ll rely on the former Oregon Duck to have a great rookie season, they also added someone who has already proven he can produce at a high level.
Safety Coby Bryant will be on the other side of Thieneman, signing a three-year, $40 million deal with the Bears this offseason. The former Seahawk spent four years in Seattle after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Through 58 games in his career, Bryant has seven interceptions, seven forced fumbles, and 227 combined tackles. He’s remained a massive asset since he’s been in the league, catching the eyes of defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who needed to bring him to Chicago. Last season alone, Bryant earned four interceptions, one forced fumble, and 66 tackles, in his best season yet. While excitement for his arrival is high, the high-caliber player will have to deliver. The good news for Bears fans is he’s already shining in training camp.
On Saturday afternoon, Bryant had a fantastic day of practice. The new arrival earned an interception against quarterback Caleb Williams, reading the pass well and hauling in the overthrow. According to those in attendance, Bryant nearly earned a second one later on, just narrowly missing it. The safety limited the offense when throwing in his direction throughout practice, showcasing his talent in his first few weeks. Thus far in camp, the offense has been dominating the defense, but Bryant helped secure a victory for their unit on day four. There’s plenty of camp left to go, but the former Pro Bowler is already showing why he will be a massive addition to the Bears this year, bringing his impressive speed and athleticism.
