What We Learned from the Jets Final Preseason Battle Against the Eagles

NFL

The New York Jets played their final preseason game on Friday against the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite losing the game, New York had much to take away from the match regarding things like roster cuts and the depth chart. Many players showed out, hoping to make one final push to make the 53-man roster, while others unfortunately disappeared when they needed to shine the most. Not many starters played this game, but it was still a very helpful game for the coaching staff as they got one last look at the roster in real game action.

Malachi Moore Shines

Rookie safety Malachi Moore made a legitimate impact on Friday. The fourth round pick logged seven tackles and an interception in the game, most likely solidifying himself a spot on the final 53. The Jets likely have their safety spots solidified with Tony Adams and free agent Andre Cisco, but Moore has been performing well in both the preseason and training camp. If one of them begins to slip during the season, expect the rookie to step in pretty fast to help fill that role.

Jamaal Pritchett Stands Out

New York Jets receiver Jamaal Pritchett made his presence felt throughout the game. However, he wasn’t most effective in the receiving game, although he did record four catches for 55 yards, Prichett’s biggest plays came on special teams. He consistently kept the Jets offense in scoring position with great returns, making sure they always had a chance to get points on their drive. In 2024, Xavier Gipson struggled as a returner, and throughout the preseason Pritchett has made his name known at that position. After his performance on Friday, Pritchett has most likely solidified himself as the Jets’ primary return man for 2025.

Malachi Corley Struggles

Malachi Corley, the New York Jets’ third round pick in 2024, has shown next to nothing in his limited action this preseason. The second-year wide receiver has consistently been one of the Jets’ lowest-rated players on the roster according to Pro Football Focus, and Friday night was no different. Corley continues to struggle making an impact whenever he is on the field, and there are now reports that he has had maturity issues off the field as well. The coaching staff previously stated that they have a plan for the young wide receiver, but as we get closer to roster cutdowns, that plan has increasingly seemed like it would involve Corley being released just one year after being drafted fairly high.
