What Went Wrong with The Wyatt Sicks, Causing Their Release?
In April 2025, WWE released several superstars, including all the members of The Wyatt Sicks, a group that was created in the mind of the late Bray Wyatt. Many fans were disappointed that the group was released instead of getting split apart and going their own separate ways. The group showed much promise upon their arrival on WWE television, but many booking decisions affected the way the fans saw the group. The Wyatt Sicks had the chance to become a dominant faction, but WWE didn't see them that way, and through constant losses and a lack of direction, the group just could not find a way to get over with the fans. How did WWE manage to fumble one of the hottest acts in the business?
The Wyatt Sicks consisted of Bo Dallas as Uncle Howdy, Dexter Lumis, Joe Gacy, Erick Rowan, and Nikki Cross. Howdy had already made a few appearances prior to The Wyatt Sicks, as he was someone who would come to the aid of Wyatt. Although plans were already in motion to present a faction led by Wyatt, those plans would never come to fruition due to the untimely passing of Wyatt in August 2023. However, after QR codes and odd videos began to appear throughout WWE programming, it was clear that the faction would eventually make its way to television. On a June 2024 episode of Raw, The Wyatt Sicks made their official debut, with Cross crawling out of a door and towards Wyatt’s lantern, an entrance similar to Wyatt's when he made his return to WWE at Extreme Rules 2022. The camera cut backstage, where WWE personnel were seen unconscious following a vicious attack. The camera would show all the members of the group, including Howdy. They made their way towards the stage and let the WWE Universe know that they were here. It was now time to put in motion a dream that Wyatt had that he never gotten to see with his own eyes.
The Wyatt Sicks had their first feud against American Made, stemming from Chad Gable being shown as one of the people who had been attacked backstage during the group’s debut. After picking up a few wins, The Wyatt Sicks then targeted The Miz and The Final Testament. This is where the unfortunate downfall of the group began, as the group suffered its first defeat. Although it made sense that The Wyatt Sicks would eventually deal with setbacks, having them lose too soon made no sense for their characters.
In early 2025, The Wyatt Sicks were moved to SmackDown but would not make an appearance until mid-2025 due to Uncle Howdy suffering an injury. The group’s most successful period came when they defeated The Street Profits to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions. During their title reign, they would start a very long feud with The MFT, a feud that did nothing for the group due to so many booking errors. The Wyatt Sicks would lose multiple matches against The MFT, including an eight-person tag where Solo Sikoa stole Wyatt’s lantern. The feud continued into 2026, where Gacy and Lumis lost the tag titles to Sikoa and Tama Tonga. The fans grew tired of the feud, and it was evident that WWE had no clue how to book The Wyatt Sicks. After months of feuding over Wyatt’s lantern, Tonga finally came to his senses and returned the lantern to The Wyatt Sicks. The group would have their final match in a losing effort to The MFT in an eight-man tag team Street Fight on the SmackDown before WrestleMania. A week later, all the members of The Wyatt Sicks were released by WWE.
If there was a vision that Wyatt had for the Wyatt Sicks, it was clear that WWE creative had no idea how to bring it to life. They could’ve easily focused on Wyatt’s past and how he tried to change the people around him, but the group was never taken seriously. Even though their beginning sounded promising, WWE handing them unnecessary losses in feuds that they needed to go over made their worth go down. The never-ending feud with The MFT made it even worse as fans grew tired of the team losing constantly. There was hope that WWE would come to its senses and push the team to a better place, but it did not matter, as they were all released, making their time in WWE a complete disappointment. WWE managed to make something special and transform in The Wyatt Sicks and book it into an underwhelming faction.
The Wyatt Sicks deserved much more than what they were given during their time in WWE. Each wrestler had the capacity of proving their worth, and even if the group would eventually split, all of them could have succeeded in singles competition. Now that the entire group is out of WWE and The Wyatt Sicks are now a thing of the past, they will have to make a name for themselves elsewhere. The Wyatt Sicks could have worked as a group, but too many losses and no clear direction on where they were going had this faction dead in the water. The rise and fall of The Wyatt Sicks is a cautionary tale for WWE on how to properly and improperly book a faction.
