Why the Florida Gators Men’s Basketball Are Built for a National Title Run in the 26-27 Season

Florida has a real shot next season at cutting down the nets with their consistency, star power, and proper roster construction. The NIL is anything but consistent right now, with players entering the portal and going across the country, joining new programs, leaving many organizations lost and unstable. Most programs rely on these transfers to build up their roster and advance their star power. Not only is Florida keeping crucial players, but they’re trying to bring back Denzel Aberdeen, who was on their national championship roster in 2025.

Their roster is not only scary, but they know how to win. With five of their top six guys playing on their 2025 championship team, there’s no reason they can’t run it back again. Thomas Haugh, Alex Condon, Rueben Chinyelu, Urban Klavzar, and Isaiah Brown all played on the 2025 title team and have the experience when it comes to March and, more importantly, winning. If the Gators can get Aberdeen, that’s another title-experienced player to increase their chances even more. He is planning to re-enroll at Florida and is trying to convince the NCAA that his freshman year in Gainesville should be considered a redshirt season. The decision will come down to the committee, but if it goes through, the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville is going to be a hard place to win at.

Haugh is the main player to look at on this roster as the All-American returns in the orange and blue for the Gators. His college resume speaks for itself as a National Champion and All-American, making his projected NBA Draft pick extremely high. However, Florida players stayed loyal to their team this offseason, with no top players entering the portal and therefore boosting their chances for the upcoming season. Consistency and experience are key things to look for when you want to go far in March. The Gators have all the pieces they need for the title run, and with head coach Todd Golden cutting the nets two seasons ago, there’s no one saying he can’t do it again.

If the Gators can’t get Aberdeen, they’ll be forced to pick up another top prospect in the 2026 transfer portal. Regardless, the Gators have a strong roster and have everything it takes to win a title. It is obviously too early to call with the season's tip-off still months away, but with the majority of stars returning, it’s already looking promising. This is after the Gators were a Round of 32 exit in 2026 after claiming the final one-seed in the tournament. The official top 25 rankings have not come out yet for college basketball, but sports sites are already making way-too-early rankings. I would not be surprised if Florida jumped programs as they return multiple key talents for a chance to make another championship run.
