When Will the ‘Celtic Warrior’ Become a Grand Slam Champion?
Ever since WrestleMania 39, the ‘Celtic Warrior’ Sheamus has been looking to add the Intercontinental Championship to his resume. Once he becomes Intercontinental Champion, Sheamus will officially be added to the prestigious list of a grand slam champion. This has been a moment the WWE Universe has been waiting to see for a long time now, especially two and a half years removed from WrestleMania 39. Currently, Sheamus has been feuding with his old faction member of the League of Nations in Rusev, and while that feud has been highly entertaining, most are waiting for these two former faction members to enter something new. There were times during Gunther’s, Sami Zayn’s, and Bron Breakker’s reign as Intercontinental Champion where it seemed like the former four-time World Champion in Sheamus would get the better of his opponent; however, the ‘Celtic Warrior’ has been thrown in the lower mid-card with guys such as Rusev, Pete Dunne, Ludwig Kaiser, and more. This raises the question of whether Sheamus will ever win the Intercontinental Championship, and if so, when will that special moment take place?
Sheamus would be a great opponent to defeat ‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio for the title. Mysterio beat the likes of AJ Styles at SummerSlam, and having another crafty former World Champion in the ring like the ‘Celtic Warrior’ would give the current Intercontinental Champion more experience and veteran insight. While it may take some time to build this storyline together, the perfect venue for this Intercontinental Championship between Sheamus and Mysterio would be at Survivor Series, which is currently being held in San Diego this November. Concidentally enough, where Dominik is from. On many occasions, WWE superstars lose matches, especially title matches, in their home state or town. All the stars would align if the ‘Celtic Warrior’ came through in Mysterio’s town just to give him the upset in front of Dom’s hometown fans.
If WWE isn’t considering this feud, we probably wouldn’t get a Sheamus Intercontinental Championship until the better likes of 2026. Which would be very unfortunate. ‘The Celtic Warrior’ re-signed with WWE back in January of this year. At 47 years old, we know Sheamus’ career is closer to being on the tail end. Yet, it may be time to give Sheamus one more memorable run with the one title he hasn’t held throughout his illustrious WWE career.
