Which Buffalo Bills Players Are at Risk of Being Cut?

NFL

The Buffalo Bills have wrapped up their preseason, and tough roster decisions are underway. On Sunday, the team released six players, with more cuts expected as they look to secure their 53-man roster. Despite some shaky games during the preseason, the Bills are determined to secure their Super Bowl-caliber team. Their debut will take place on September 5th in Buffalo, when they host the Baltimore Ravens.

The preseason gave many second and third-string candidates a chance to stand out and reveal who was truly meant for the NFL. The second-string quarterback battle is now pretty clear, with Mike White most likely getting cut. White had a subpar preseason performance, posting 166 yards throughout three games. While Mitch Trubisky didn’t impress either, the QB has more familiarity with the Bills locker room, and his skillset is more developed. Shane Buechele, who is fighting for a spot on the practice squad, outshone both Trubisky and White in Buffalo's last preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The fourth-string QB completed 83% of his passes for nearly 300 yards. While the second-string debate looks settled, it will be interesting to see who will make the practice squad.

Another pressing debate centers around running back Frank Gore Jr. Gore showed flashes in all three preseason games, but the question is, will there be an open spot? With the re-signing of star back James Cook, the Bills' running back room feels pretty crowded. Yet this summer, Gore made a strong case. The running back punched in a highlight-worthy touchdown in the Tampa Bay game, leaving fans wanting more. While Gore remains on the roster bubble, he will be hard for the Bills to overlook.

Also on the bubble is wide receiver Tyrell Shavers. Just like Gore, Shavers had an impressive summer, making his case for a spot on the team. Shavers outshone current receiver Curtis Samuel, even making an impressive one-handed touchdown against the Bucs. The Bills have no choice but to give him a spot in the wide receiver room. As the season approaches, these final cuts will be crucial in determining the Bills' performance and Super Bowl run.
