Which Former NXT Tag Team Champion Will Turn on the Other First After Heatwave?
At NXT Heatwave on Sunday, August 30th, NXT North American and NXT Tag Team Champion Myles Borne chose to defend both championships. First, Borne and tag partner Tavion Heights lost the titles to The Vanity Project’s Ricky Smokes and Brad Baylor; then, a few matches later, Borne would face off against the leader of The Vanity Project, Jackson Drake, and would lose as well. After Heights came to support his best friend after losing his second championship of the night, the former NXT North American & Tag Team Champion attacked Heights, walking away with no remorse. The friendship that began in the NQCC may be falling apart faster than ever.
During the September 1st edition of NXT, the brand played a video Borne posted on X pretty much explaining that he knew how much the NXT Tag Team Championship meant to Heights; the former NXT North American & Tag Team Champion saw the look his best friend had on his face and knew how much it meant. When they lost the titles, Borne felt he was reacting because he had a feeling Heights was going to betray him, when his best friend did no such thing. In the past, it appeared Heights would turn on his best friend, but it never came to fruition. Many expected it to happen at Heatwave, but when it was Borne attacking Heights, many speculated it could have been for selfish reasons such as losing both championships in one night.
Borne knew he struck out with the opportunities he had at his disposal, and acknowledged it was his idea to pull double duty at Heatwave. However, with his back turned, how did he truly know if Heights was going to attack him? The former NXT North American & Tag Team Champion has every plausibility to question his best friend and expect it to happen, but for Borne to attack first does not put him in the best light. While they have not gone face to face since the attack at Heatwave, Heights will be standing up to Drake, facing him for the NXT North American Championship on the September 8th episode. Perhaps during this championship bout, these two will feud even more, culminating in one giant heel turn.
Once these two are beside one another again, who will actually make the first heel-ish move? Over the past few months, all fingers pointed to Heights, but now a surprising move could see Borne become one of the biggest heels on the brand. The former NXT North American & Tag Team Champion got over with the crowd, explaining his disability and being accepted by the WWE Universe for it. Now that he’s played the role of a beloved babyface, it may be time to see Borne turn to the dark side. With Heights having an NXT North American Championship match, we could see Borne screw over his best friend and reveal his true intentions. Perhaps NXT has been trying to bait us with a Borne heel turn only for Heights to take out his frustrations on his friend.
If one of these two superstars is to turn heel, it would be better for the brand if it was Borne. As the bad guy, he has the ability to help put over his friend and give him more crowd reactions from the NXT Universe. Helping put over Heights would put the former NXT North American & Tag Team Champion in a unique position he hasn’t done yet within NXT. It also gives the chance to work with some different talent on the brand. Borne should turn heel and start to vie for his way towards the NXT Championship.
