Europe Charges Against Infantino
Pressure to resign after the investment proposal has only grown. UEFA is fully against Infantino remaining in office, positioning itself as the biggest threat against Infantino’s rule. Infantino himself served as UEFA's general secretary for seven years before becoming FIFA president. La Liga president, Javier Tebas, openly condemned Infantino on X, stating that he “Should not continue leading FIFA.” Given that Spain was crowned World Champion just a few weeks ago, this declaration does not go unnoticed. However, Infantino also has his fair share of allies. CONMEBOL, the confederation that rules over South America, has stayed by Infantino’s side. The South American confederation celebrated the abandonment of the FIFA Forward Enterprise but is not on board with the boycott and supports Infantino as FIFA president. CONMEBOL had been considering hosting an entire group in Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay for the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup, rather than just hosting one game as originally stipulated; an idea supported by Infantino. The proposal, which required 64 teams to qualify for the 2030 World Cup, was rejected by CONCACAF and other confederations.
